The main thing I remember about Stan is that he could & would remove your head from your torso.

I wondered the same thing. Doesn't look like his fingers are grasping the facemask and there is no twisting of the helmet. So, I would rule incidental. Now, depending on the crew of officials, Thomas might get a game in the penalty hoosegow and have to write an apology to that poor Piggie (I think that is Arkansas).

The actual photo is the iconic late 4th quarter TD scored by Jim Bertlesen in the Big Shootout vs. arky Dec. 6, 1969.

The photo "card" was first created in 2013 and that year was the 50th anniversary of the 1963 National Championship - thus the little helmet with the 50 on it and 1963 label below it.
