The Galloping Gaucho. One of DKR’s first recruits, he led the team in all-purpose yards in 1957. All-SWC in 1959. Inducted in the Hall of Honor 2013.

Seems like Billy Dale had an article about Rene and his passing away not too long ago.

Second in school history with 238 career interception return yards.

This is about 90 minutes early, but I prolly won’t be able to post tomorrow, so here goes:
Bobby Dan Dillon, Temple

Lost his left eye at the age of ten. Played his entire career with a glass eye. Team captain.
All-SWC, AA in 1951. Tied for 5th with 13 career interceptions. He held the career interception return yards record for 44 years until it was broken by Chris Carter in 1995. Sprinter on the track team winning two conference championships.
He was drafted by Green Bay in the third round and became a four time All Pro and Pro Bowler. He holds the Packers record for career interceptions and return yards. Vince Lombardi called him the best defensive back in the NFL. Inducted in the Packer Hall of Fame in 1974 and NFL HOF in 2020.
He was inducted into the Longhorn Hall of Honor in 1972.
