On the merits (meaning not considering politics), it might be the worst nomination in the history of the cabinet. He's laughably unqualified. You could walk into almost any law firm in the country, play eenie meenie miney mo with the names of the partners and associates and come up with a better option about 99 percent of the time. Even if not a criminal, he's of very slimy character, and is a self-promoting sack of sh1t. He'd never get confirmed.

However, Trump will likely attempt a recess appointment.
 
Gaetz has baggage. No doubt about that and doesn't have a whole lot of experience either.

However, the 99% you quoted, Deez would also be fine with the corruption in the DOJ and look the other way..

Gaetz, with all of his faults, won't tolerate the corruption we're seeing.

I don't think the 99 percent necessarily would be fine with corruption. He doesn't have to go with a DoJ lawyer or veteran of the Department. He could go with a federal criminal defense lawyer or just that he trusts to break balls. He could even go with a civil attorney. Hell, I'll do it.

Just got news that Gaetz has resigned his seat. Not sure if that means he's going to back out of the AG gig.

If he was going to back out of AG gig Why would he resign his Rep seat?
 
Is it possible that Trump threw Gaetz out there as a distraction knowing that he won't be confirmed. The announcement has certainly caused a lot of noise. If he's resigned from the House I think that's a good thing because he's an azzhole. No confirmation would mean he's out of the way in terms of causing disruption. Trump can name another, less controversial yet ballbusting AG.

But now the tables are turned - the 0-6's and above will take orders that count from the O-3. As you pointed out, the political part enters with that golden selection to O-7. With the political part comes the SES-15's and above who are 90%+ demz.

The political transformation is weird. Until about 15 years ago, the GOP was more deferential to the higher-ups at DoD, and the Dems were suspicious of them. The reverse is now true.
 
John Fetterman will one day leave the Democratic Party. He just has too good of a sense of humor to stay. He'll eventually piss off the wrong people. And I'm very glad he's in the Senate while Casey (who's a liberal hack) is gone.

It's possible that Trump owes Gaetz or a supporter of his a favor. It's also possible that it's a strategic move. He knows that whoever he nominates will be demonized to no end. Accordingly, he nominates a total dumpster fire first, which will make the outrage machine go to Defcon 1. Then he pulls the nomination (or it fails), and he nominates the serious option that he already had in mind. That nominee will still get ripped by Democrats and the media, but many will say, "at least he's not Gaetz" and go along.

Impossible to know for sure, but I suspect it'll relate to cocaine use and banging young chicks. If he quits, the Ethics Committee will likely end the investigation and not release the report.

Then it all makes sense. Even the idea that Maybe Trump likes the idea of a dumpster fire ( and it ceetainly is). This also is a benefit to Gaetz.
 
IMO, "draining the swamp" requires some decision-makers who are not members of the swamp. And putting those folks in positions of power will certainly hack off the members of the swamp!

HHD, under same guise opening up the books on things like the JFk papers is not going to sit well with many still living participants.
