Why Does This Appear to be a Black Problem?

You are vouching for her honesty, character and recollection of the event(both of them)... and of course that the police are lying, no good racists that coerced her and yet at the same time ignored her. Got it.
 
It has become clear why the people paid to protect and serve the Sanford community were not so forthcoming with the release of the 911 tapes. Zimmerman can now be heard calling his victim an "******* coon" under his breath as he pursued and summarily murdered him.
 
Just heard it for the 1st time on Lawrence O'Donnell show. I'll be honest, I expected to hear the n word, but there was no mistaking what Zimmermann said -" [bleep] coon".

According to the Martin family lawyer, this kind of attitude was prevalent throughout this gated community. Also saw video of a 13 yr old black kid who heard the cries for help and the gunshot, talk about it - pretty powerful.

In answer to your original question, Yes I think this more likely to happen to Blacks. White folk tend to be more fearful of black teens than perhaps is appropriate. The black males I've been around for the most part buy into a macho culture where they will put up with less humilating crap than average folks before going to fist city.

Looks to me like the Hispanic redneck confronted a user of sugary snacks in a way that was perhaps demeaning and insulting. Black kid responds and begins to deliver an ***-kicking that was earned and deserved.
Redneck gets scared, pulls a weapon and ends a violent confrontation with the teen dead.

Frankly I think the local police did the math too fast, but came to the right conclusion. The killer will skate, using laws that are possible only in a legislative climate where everyone is trying to stake out the position furthest to the right possible without crossing over into a Divine Rights Monarchy. Such laws seem bizarre, but are possible in a Republic where legislators are disciplined harshly by NRA $ and NRA activists when they don't use their tongues enthusiastically enough when kissing the tush of Wayne LaPierre, Florida set a new standard in tote and use laws that enable anyone in a fearsome confrontation to use deadly force with pretty much impunity. In this case the redneck may be indicted, but as I read Florida law he was legally justified in using deadly force, even if it was to end a confrontation he created by acting like a numbskull. On the happy side, if the black kid had a pistol and had used it faster he could have killed the Hispanic redneck and skated free as well, though he might not have been treated with the same kid gloves by local police his killer received -- due to being a black teen who killed a neighborhood watch captain.
And the NRA is now is in Near Nirvanna having created in Florida a place where packing pistols in your holster and being quick on the draw lets you be the studly Dodge City gunfighter with notches in your pistol or Mos Eisley Jeddi -- able to kill with impunity (save the PR hit) when confronting anybody who doesn't cower when you try to push them around.
 
I don' think many of you here understand the paralyzing fear a man like myself lives with knowing that this could very well happen to his own child. It's why you worry about them when they leave home because regardless of how well you've reared them and what values you have instilled in them, that to somebody they are "suspicious". I honestly think some of you can't comprehend the benefit that inures to you and your male children by virtue of you never having to deal with them being suspicious.

For people like me, the fear never leaves you..
 
Satchel: Is the white authority figure the main source of worry for you? It seems like from what I hear most young black men who fall victim to murder are killed by other young black men. Seems like the concern should be over where they are and with whom.
 
OK, I'm a bit confused Satchel. In your initial post you said you were a "white latina" and in your latest you state you are a black male. Not that this has a bearing on the case at hand, but it if I in fact read correctly in your first post, it makes your comments about how no one can understand the fear a black father faces, etc. kind of confusing.

I think it is grossly incorrect to imply that a black father/mother fears any more than a parent of any color for the safety of their child. Yes, this situation is horrible, but it isn't as if it happens nightly. Unfortunately I can't say the same for young men killing each other as members of gangs, etc. I speak of young men of all colors,not just black.
I also imagine Hispanic kids, white kids and black kids being hassled by groups of a different color than themselves. I know as a female runner, and an older one at that! I often am made to feel uncomfortable running past a group of color where the men say innapropriate comments.

I am just naive or stupid enough to think that these situations and people represent the end of the bell curve so to speak, and not the majority.
 
Oh, and I'm glad the Justice Department can intervene. In the old south murderers of uppity blacks were often not prosecuted by racist state and local authorities, but could at least be held accountable for "violating the civil rights" of their victims. Zimmerman could at least face justice and jail time for that even if what he did is likely gong to fall within "reasonable doubt" under Florida law.
