I think what plagued OU for the last decade was a defense that went from shoddy to sporadic. They could play good at times but never consistently. The last days of Riley shows what's happening at SC now - he's wasting one of the best quarterbacks on our generation by having no defense to stand behind him. Yes, he took a few players to SC with him. He didn't take any defensive players. BV got the players that were already recruited and ones that he could scrounge up. We didn't get any noteworthy transfers last year on defense. We were young and not highly ranked from a recruiting standpoint.OUBubba, I think it will be competitive. The Sooners are much better than last year - when Riley went west, he took a bunch of talent with him, leaving BV with a minimum cupboard from which to field a team. BV did well in the portal, and the talent level is significantly better.
IMO, the Sooners, although much improved, are still behind the Longhorns in talent level. The ou defense will have trouble stopping the Texas offense. I expect the game to be very competitive, with Texas putting on the fourth-quarter surge to pull away.
Good to have you back on our board!
OU has a better QBWhy do some folks think OU will fare better than Bama? I don’t see it.
I think ou will fare about the same as Bama--we win by 7-10 points. I think this because ou has a better, more balanced offense than Bama showed against us. Also, ou will be more familiar with the Horns tendencies, and will likely defend the Horns better for 3 quarters. I look for ou to score more points than Bama. But our talent and D will prevail in the end, imo.Why do some folks think OU will fare better than Bama? I don’t see it.

I think you need to clarify that a little...Good Guys-42
Cheaters-31
Only someone from nou would need clarification...I think you need to clarify that a little...
So you’re a self-described big head.Dukesteer has a big head. Really. It didn’t fit…

2 years ago I was at the first game Sark coached in the cotton bowl. My nephew, in a drunken purchase, bought tickets front row, in the end zone of ou. Thats right. In any event I went with him and first play from scrimmage was the 80 yd td to X and so went the first half. Never enjoyed a 1/2 more. We had a very shaky d in pk's first year and when we lost the DE in the 2nd qtr, our d got considerably weaker. I had to sit thru the excruciating 2nd half comeback in the middle of drunken trailer park trash. Sark will be prepared. We dont have bull dog coach like Muschamp was but we have a very mature defense and leadership group. I expect Texas to be formidable and hand the land of thieves their greyhound bus ticket back to choklahoma!!I agree that the Bama staff is better than ou's. I don't know if the Horns are more prepared for ou than for Bama. I think the Horns prepared a great deal for Bama in the weeks leading up to that game. ( I think much less time was spent on prep for Rice.) But the Horns and the staff had time for strategizing and planning and watching film on Bama that simply isn't available for a mid-season game like ou. We would need a by week before ou to even get close to the time that was available for the Bama game.
Someone could rightfully say that time is equal for both teams in this regard. But ou has played Sark led Texas twice now and seen every game Sark has coached while at Texas. The dang gooners likely have a small army of folks looking at film analyzing every play and every formation and trend and god knows what.
Venables knows that to a large extent his tenure at ou is tied closely to his won/loss record against Texas. Couple all that with the embarrassment ou suffered in the 49-0 beat down last year and they will be frothing at the mouth coming down the tunnel before kickoff.
We need to withstand the first quarter kami-Kazi attack that will be thrown at the Horns and come up with some surprises of our own--IN SARK I TRUST.
My mom says if you get tickets in the bad half you just meander to the good half and look for anxious people from the other side that are usually eager to trade you tickets. Her most memorable seats were in the little section in the UT end zone that makes up for the part of the end zone that OU loses because the tunnel is there.2 years ago I was at the first game Sark coached in the cotton bowl. I was tempted to go with my usual pick, but I actually believe in the blowout this week and want to give myself a chance to make the leader board for once.
