Washington Huskies Series

Ace W minimizes the damage. (More or less)

I can’t see Howard starting next weekend. Tech drilled him. And now this.
Ace Whitehead has got to move into the #2 or #3 starter for next weekend. Either Grubbs or Fontenot may also get a shot at the other weekend starter position. LBJ is obviously #1. This assumes Howard and maybe also Hurley will not be starting next weekend. I think Howard is moving down (at least for now). Hurley, I don't know.

Better to get this worked out now than in May or June.

This is one of those weekends I don't miss having LHN. The phone updates have been painful and reading this thread so far has been down right a kick in the gut. A friend texted me yesterday that it was time to fire the pitching coach something he has jokingly been texting me for a while after losses and for the first time my instinct was not to take it jokingly but take it quite seriously.

This is one of those seasons on which futures hinge and if it goes much more off the tracks it does mean some serious consideration for a major change. By no stretch am I there yet but the collapse of the bullpen and the pitching woes are on one man who chose to take over coaching that position by firing his last two pitching coaches who had a CWS and super regional appearance between them. If this team doesn't find a way to turn it around and with an SEC schedule around the corner that will be a war each and every weekend, a new Captain for this ship may be needed.

I am usually a hold out wanting to give coaches as much a chance as possible and with Pierce I recognize how baseball cant be a one game or even few games reaction so you cannot knee jerk react even to a bad weekend but the signs this year are ominous and we are almost 20 games in and it really is a series of decisions and actions by Pierce that are the cause of this team struggling.

Pierce has not fired any pitching coaches since he has been here. Both left of their own accord.
It's weird that we keep getting these pitching coaches who can't get along with people, so they decide to pack their bags and leave. Maybe they have difficult personalities or something.

Grubbs gets the start on the mound today.

Pierce remarked that Grubbs has tightened up his sinker-slider combo since last year, and looks like a new pitcher this year. Big jump in improvement.

Ace throws strikes, it’s pretty simple, a lot of our staff are throwing outside the zone way too much.

Don't look now but TCU, picked to finish first in the conference, has now lost two Big XII series in back to back weekends. OU is number 1 right now at 5-0, Skip Johnson has his team playing decent right now after stumbling in "pre-season".

Long weather delay.

Wind 12-15 mph with gusts much higher out of N, NE.

Game just started.

Grubbs doesn't waste any time. Works quickly.

Just started, but going off line in transit. Will pick up later.

Wow, nice ground ball back to the pitcher and I don’t know who’s fault it’s going to be, throw to 2nd was a little wide but it hit Flores’ glove and O’Dowd ends up with it. Error. Everyone safe.

next hitter hits it up the middle and should have been another DP but Flores’s throw is high or offline and Thomas isn’t able to keep his foot on the bag. 2nd out but runner at 1st safe.

next batter hits to O’Dowd and we get the final out. With 2 errors but no damage.
