UT, OU, and SEC?

Kyle is a total f'n loser. He needs to switch his allegiance to UTEP.
I think you guys (IDE and Hoff) are missing it on Kyle. He is very funny and a great follow. That post was tongue and cheek poking fun at the Ags. He is obsessed with the Ags but he uses facts and stats to show them how inferior they are...

Does anyone around here, when confronted by opposing team fans, puff out their chest over the value of the Texas athletics department as a way to shut that person down? Would an OU fan back down because of it, or would he just point to the dominance over Texas the last decade or so and all the titles they have? Seriously, who cares? Why is this a thing?

I couldn't care less if Texas plays on CBS or FS1 or...whatever. What does the value of the TV deal matter to me as a fan? Why should I care? Does it make Texas more competitive? You wouldn't know it by the results of the craptastic previous decade of football, that's for damn sure.

Don’t like it because I’ve enjoyed bad mouthing the SEC all these years and thus makes it look like ‘if you can’t beat them join them’. Plus I don’t like doing anything behind aggie. NIL will probably ruin things for me anyway so this may just be a pile on.
Things that I’ll stay away from here as to not start controversy stopped my interest in the NFL. It never occurred to me to boycott the NFL, I just didn’t care anymore. Haven’t watched a NFL game in several years. And much to my surprise I do not miss it.
I am in hopes that NLI does not turn what I dearly love into the same feelings.

I don’t think a Sooner would understand. Unless one presented an abacus and a white board to explain.

One aspect about this possible merger is that we can correct some win-loss records against some SEC teams. Currently we have winning records against every school except South Carolina 0-1, Miss St 2-2, and Vandy 3-8-1. Of course the flip side is that we start losing more games to those we have a lead in.

I don't remember off hand how many teams have better records against us but it isn't many and Vandy was one that really surprised me years ago when I saw it.

Edit: OK, I counted it up from the link I shared above and it's 19 teams we have a losing record against.

All Time Record Against SEC

All the Vandy vs. Texas games were way before the time any of us were around.

Long ago l looked up the scores, losses to Vandy. I think there was a time in the earlier days of football when Vandy was good, not sure a powerhouse but good.

Second, I think some of the seasons they played the Horns were down a bit. That was about all I can conclude.

Anyone else got an opinion on this?

I hear ya HIC but IMHO this move is all about money. The road to the CFP is much easier if we stay in current B12. Maybe I'm wrong and we aren't getting the best players and this move will help us upgrade talent through recruiting to accelerate winning and get back to the pinnacle but this seems like it's all about the almighty dollar to me.

My nightmare scenario: We somehow find ourselves in a conference consisting of:

Us
Maryland
UCLA
Stanford
NC State
BYU
Might as well add TCU to the list. Reality is that they've dominated us since they joined the B12 thanks to Charlie and Tom.

good point

TCU, and their often-ribbed coach has whipped our a$$ more often than not in recent years. (it certainly seems that way)

Unlike some folks, I think TCU would add some real value to another conference. Hopefully for them, they (and Tech) get a PAC invite. If not, the MWC is about to get a lot better…

Oh I'm sure it is about money, and I get that from the perspective of UT. But, when I see posters here touting better TV contracts, etc., I just wonder why they care. I couldn't care less. What does it do for me?

TCU has upgraded its facilities, etc. They have been competitive and kicked our *** for the most part since going the big XII, and now will get left out in the cold.

This is really a crappy move by Texas when you consider the other schools. If Texas fans just don't give a crap about them, well that's pretty crappy.

You give them FAAAAAAAAAAAR too much credit.
No. TCU has been the superior program. Saying otherwise os looking at things through burnt orange sunglasses. They should be in the SEC before Vanderbilt or Kentucky, if we are talking football, which is what most SEC!SEC!SEC! fans really care about. But, they are good in baseball, too.

Interesting take, but I see it differently. Texas should look out for its own best interests, first and foremost. An unintended consequence could be the detrimental impact on schools like TCU.

Many here like our buddy SH have criticized the management of the Big 12, probably justifiably so. I tend to believe that the power base at Texas assessed the landscape, looked into the future, and made a determination that there was a problem going forward with the existing conference, and that the problem was not going to get corrected.

Timing is everything. I will not be happy to see programs like TCU struggle, if indeed that is the case. However, I cannot fault leadership if they act in the best interests of our school.

Additionally, I think the NIL decision has completely and dramatically changed the landscape. It’s a terrible reality that will devastate lesser programs that will not be able to entice the top athletes. The gap between the Haves and the others will expand to a point that, quite possibly, many schools will soon be unable to complete.

I don’t like NIL and I am not enamored with the SEC, but I cannot fault Texas for making a decision — if they make it — that they believe to be in the best long term interests of the school.

Anyone else feeling it?

@dukesteer I always enjoy your perspectives. If A&M, OU, tOSU, et al, did this sort of thing to the detriment of conference mates, Texas fans would be up in arms and critical. That's all I'm saying.

I agree, Texas will and should do what is best for Texas. It seems to only drag OU along leaves the others out in the cold and is just kind of crappy to do. I get it, that's business, which is all college football is.

We have mostly here been critical of the SEC group think and media slobbering. But now, as mentioned above, Everyone seems to be all on board. Not me, like I have any say in it. My interest in Texas football just continues to wane.

Go ahead, cue the "Well, bye" meme. I don't care.

I was replying to Chop, who said aggy is worth about half what we are worth.

So, TCU began playing in the big 12 in 2012, and their in-conference record is 44-37. They won one conference championship, in 2017. That included going 7-3 against us in, I suppose, our worst decade in history. Our conference record over the same time period was 46-35. That is, in our worst decade, even though we lost more games to TCU, we still did better than they did overall against the same competition. Plus, we sold more tickets, made more money, won more impressive bowl games, etc. So, our worst decade is still better than TCU. They are in no way "the superior program." Your pessimism is getting the best of you.

I do not read the board the same as you. I see more anti "move to the SEC" than pro.

To me, the main reason for the move is the fact that we cannot recruit since the aggys move to the SEC This year we lost OL to Oregon. We are missing recruits because we are not in the SEC. I do not like the move, but it appears that is the only way we can recruit Texas again.

Yes, considering al the built in resources Texas has, yes, TCU has been the superior program.

See, these are called opinions. You have yours, I have mine.

My dilemma is, what is the alternative? If the Big 12 continues to stagnate and perhaps more importantly, if networks like Fox aren’t interested in renewing, there is a big problem. And indeed, there is a big problem.

NIL will change everything. The SEC shenanigans — of funneling money to players — may have been negated by the decision. So if we are now all going to be paying players, one of my strong objections to joining that conference, ethics, may have been eliminated.

The purity and innocence is gone. Many would argue that it has been absent in many places for a long time.

I really like our chances on what now may be closer to a level playing field.

I'm with you 100%. My post was addressing the "hypocrisy so thick you can walk on it"aspect.
I will never understand why you feel the need to be the hypocrisy sheriff around here.
I also don't think many here necessarily think it's a great day in Texas if we join the SEC.
I am one that has never liked the SEC and would almost rather see us go independent.
But having absolutely zero control of the situation I will find the positives and support the only team that matters to me.
