TTU @ Texas 02/08/2023

Not my story to tell, but I don’t think Hunter will still be here next season. I could be wrong. I wish her well whatever happens.

65 trips to the line almost evenly divided between teams. As much as I hated all the whistles, imagine the outcome in Lubbock had the trips to the line not been so lopsided. 30 for them. 6 for us. Still pisses me off.
I haven't looked at the timing of the fouls. I don't think they evened up until the end when tech started fouling to try to win the game. I wonder what the spread looked like at the end of the third. I honestly don't pay much attention to the fouls that are called or missed on the other team. I do have an opinion on how poorly the game was called against Texas.

They claim to be besties. Between the two of them little to no basketball being played the past year ironically/coincidentally
Maybe she showed up just because AC was going to be in Austin?

Odd that Gaston and Hunter became good friends with Chevallier in the 6 months they were together on the team. Good enough for Hunter to show up to the game from her place away from the team and for Gaston to hug her in the post-game line. And yet for Chevallier to hate Texas as much as she does.

A lot of posts have mentioned the officiating. I agree that something has to change and I agree that too many refs don't understand women and how they play the game. I suggested previously that only women should ref women's games. Got poopooed. I stand by that. If men want to ref women's games, they should have to spend a season in the stands, watching women play.
And...the best reffed game of this year was the one where all three refs were women!

This speaks volumes about her personal character IMO. Messy. It's disappointing as I was really cheering for her.
However, with Maul and Booker coming next year to join Harmon and Gonzalez in the back court, I believe the writing is on the wall that we've moved on.

This definitely was not the year to leave our team in a bind with guard-depth. Depth issues have really hurt us this season. We need to fill those 15 scholarship spots with people who can fight through adversity and do whatever it takes to help the team. Its not fair to the rest of the team to occupy a scholarship spot and not be available for the team.

I’m sure the person most disappointed is Hunter. She probably worked very hard for years to get here and it didn’t work out. I really do wish her the very best here or wherever she lands. And I’ll never forget those 7 threes in her first game! :hookem:

It occurred to me with the latest news about leaving for the SEC early and the apparent less adversarial relationship with the Tech coaches that Gerlich has realized that Vic holds all the power with regards to a future annual matchup which I’m sure she feels is a necessity for her program. Nobody wants their SuperBowl canceled when they’re trying to build their program and increase the fan base.

To be honest I never really considered Tech a rival in any sport but WBB and I thought it was a very healthy rivalry during the Jody/Marsha years. Of course it’s dwindled to nothing the past decade really, but Gerlich was there during their heyday and you’ve got to think Marsha has her ear and that she’s surely given her some guidance. A healthy rivalry with Texas is never a bad them in recruiting.

Vic is not only a nice guy, but he wants what’s good for women’s basketball and will put butts in seats. Also Vic ain’t afraid to play anybody.

It will be interesting to see how this proceeds. The power structure in the Big 12 is already starting to change in WBB and the vacuum will only increase when Texas and OU leave. If Tech can get their act together they might be able to take a lead. I can remember sitting in Reunion Arena during the Big 12 tournament on a Saturday night and about 75% of it being black & red. Unlike our fan base, they had fans that attended both the Men’s and Women’s games when there was no conflict. It will be interesting to see what happens in the new Big 12

I’m not sure I’ll care much once we are gone. I’ve always followed Texas but I also followed Georgia during the Andy Landers era and attended many of their games so I’ve been equally focused on the SEC. Texas in the SEC brings all my favorite teams together into one conference. The only thing that sucks is having to deal with the horrible KM again.

I think I’ll be rather curious about the Big 12 post OU/Texas initially at least. I’d be surprised if there is a dynasty again ala Baylor’s run but Tech has an opportunity to elevate their program again.

I also took a special interest in Georgia during the Andy Landers years and I honestly can’t remember how i was first drawn in to that. I’ve had the SEC Network since the beginning so I’ve been watching a lot of the WBB games over the years. I’m curious about the fate of LHN and hope if it goes away an additional SEC channel to cover the expansion. I can’t imagine a downgrade but either way I’m sure I’ll have to keep my ESPN+ subscription.

I’m really looking forward to Texas entering the fray and yes, NOT looking forward to the KM aspect.

I predict the end of her coaching career to be dramatic and explosive as I think she’ll not go out when she probably should. Her mix of ego and crazy just seems really volatile. Like a Woody Hayes in heels

I'm pretty sure Del Conte has heard from those above his pay grade that we will not be scheduling Tech in any sports in the future. Tech's ridiculous conduct during the Chris Beard dustup (which was actually originated at the top by AD Hocutt) and the fighting with Vic, were bad enough, but I think what really put it over the top was when they let their fans storm the field after the football game and one of our players got assaulted from behind. Non-conference scheduling is like a mini-partnership, where both sides benefit from the relationship. But if your partner is incapable of showing you any respect or even basic sportsmanship (and can't even ensure your players can leave the field safely), then who the heck needs that? - especially when there are many, many, many other alternatives out there. The fact that Tech and its boosters desperately want to continue this one-sided "rivalry" is all the more reason to move on.

Both Gaston and Chevalier were class of 2020 (COVID season). So, they knew each other like 18 months before Ashley moved on. But, Hunter and Chevalier knew each other less time, but probably met during Hunter's recruiting visits to Texas.

Gerlich has not made it a habit of scheduling non-conference games against Top 25 opponents. Honestly, unless she makes an NCAA tournament this season or next, I don't think she'll be the Tech head coach once Texas is officially in the SEC.

That may be true, however I don’t expect her to proceed as if she won’t be their coach. She is 50% against Texas as HC (I think). I don’t think her leash will be quite as short as just anyone seeing as how she’s a former Lady Raider who was a starter on the national championship team. So far she has them convinced the program is headed in the right direction.
I’m not sure you heard about the whining and crying and lawsuit threats that Tech made to keep Texas on their schedule after the SEC move and I’d venture a guess that Gerlich indeed wants Texas on their annual non conference schedule. I’d be shocked if she doesn’t.
The move to the SEC didn’t stop WBB from playing A&M in non conference games. So it doesn’t seem far fetched to me. Texas on their schedule and her tenure lasting past Texas move to SEC.

I’m very sorry to bring this Tech Thread back up to the top. Notice: This is the TTU thread not the TCU in case you are lost…

For some reason, I’m a tiny bit obsessed with Tx Tech WBB Twitter and I just have to laugh at how they keep saying even after their loss today at home that Gerlich has them moving in the right direction .

Her first season they went 5-13 in conference play. Her second season they went 4-14. Currently they are 4-8. That feels like a standstill not a direction. :lmao:

Again, my apology. I’ll move on now. I promise.
