Holle is zero threat offensively. Ugh
Good point. The one shooting .400 from 3, the best on the team is no threat offensively.

The other team doesn't even guard her on the perimeter, so Gaston and Faye get triple teamed inside.

Another sloppy game that was hard to watch. Low basketball IQ, poor officiating (the concept of "all ball" does not exist), dumb turnovers, etc. But as they say a W is a W.

I also have to call all something that is glaring at least to me. Tech, along with many other B12 teams, are getting a lot more from their Freshmen. They do not appear to be improving at near the rate you would expect from Freshmen at this point in the season. And that is very discouraging considering recruiting rankings. I wish I had more insight into that.

*AC was stellar in that cameo appearance.
She went from a bench player on a really good team to the designated fouler on a mediocre one, in a city that smells like cow ****. Not exactly my definition of moving up in the world, but hey, if it helps her mental health, more power to her.

There needs to be a reckoning in the women’s game about the inconsistency from refs. It slows the game down and makes it less appealing.

These players and coaches who work hard at trying to build fanbases and elevate the sport deserve better.

And the fans deserve better as well. Tonight we suffered through a whistle being blown 1.3 times per minute. 52 fouls. 65 free throws. At least it was even, but I refuse to believe these players were that out of control.

I don’t know what the solution is. I don’t watch the men’s game enough to know if it happens there as well, but when the whistle gets blown in anticipation of something happening… sorry for the rant. It was just painful to sit through.
I've said it before... with just a few exceptions, NCAAWBB gets the absolute BOTTOM of the barrel when it comes to officiating. All three of those last night were some of the worst I've ever seen.

Unlike the men's game, the women don't possess that widespread, high-flying, acrobatic athleticism that regularly puts them up around and above the rim and allows them to soar over defenders. Down on the floor where the women play, there's just naturally going to be more contact and the refs need to FKG REALIZE THAT. When they don't, there's going to be a whistle on damn near every possession.

Most WBB officials don't seem to comprehend that the women's game is different from the men's in this aspect. They need to be trained in a way that helps them call the women's game better. To make matters worse you have the coaches like Fennelly, Mitte, Vanderveer, etc. constantly whining about physical play and "freedom of movement," yet who grabs, holds, and pushes off more than their teams?

I'll give Tech this much, they don't shy away from physical play. They fight and scrap until the end. I don't like the Sand_itch at all, but she's a good coach.

It might be something as simple as freshmen on other teams (such as Tech) due to talent, injuries etc are getting a lot more minutes or even starting out of necessity and therefore appear to be further along especially at this point of the season. Kinda like Rori last year (and Amo minus the injuries). Tech’s Maupin and Shavers both avg 21 minutes per game for example

I've thought about that, but neither seem to display any shooters touch. That's more a talent issue than experience.

Didn’t recognize her. She looks terribly out of shape. I guess her role is to come off the bench and foul. Nothing else.

I sorta-kinda forgot she was on the team until they announced her coming in. And...I don't want to fat shame players, but I was like, "Oh...I almost didn't recognize you". Regardless of her physical look, she was very, very quick. I was surprised they didn't use her more for the inbounding defense rather than just to give fouls.

She went from a coach that was pushing her to reach her full athletic potential (and gave her something to be proud of in the way of accomplishments) to one that lets her do what she wants. If you ask me, she's wasted whatever her hoops career could have been. I guess she can at least show off her Elite8 ring that she received as a result of being with the program that she loves to disparage.

I wanna know why Vic didn't punch Gerlich in the face there at the end instead shaking her hand?

Maybe he's trying to be the bigger person and bury old grudges. In my opinion, neither one of the coaches presented a good look in the infamous shouting match. This was a much more professional and respectful beginning and ending to the game, as it should be.

I suspect that Vic picked up the phone in advanced and apologized for the dustup last year and buried the hatchet.

My last post-mortem for this game:
So the organizers of the "wreck the mood" turnout effort tonight probably agitated a few Tech fans who would have otherwise stayed home tonight to do the usual - watch netflix using stolen account credentials. Therefore, they want their fan base to know that tonight's loss to a short-handed Longhorn team was really just part of the "grand plan" for the lady raiders. They are shooting for much bigger goals out there on the south plains folks. Turns out the real goal was an 8 & 10 conference record this season! Watch out Big12!!!
:e-face-tears::e-face-tears::e-face-tears:

The tech fans most have gotten lost on the way to Moody. I could count on one hand how many fans in that gear I came across. If they were wrecking moody, they were doing behind a TV screen somewhere.

It’s not fat shaming to observe a D-1 collegiate athlete is out of shape - IMO. Still seemed pretty quick. I’m not sure how fun it can be to be inserted when a game is basically over with one mission - foul.

I find myself thinking that, and then she hits one when we need it. I love her defense - she zips down the court so quickly on fast breaks. I once saw Olympic sprinter Marion Jones playing for North Carolina - she looked like a tape on fast forward - it was startling, almost a cartoon special effect. Holle, although not at Olympic speeds, does that, too - must be a big surprise to the opposing player expecting to make an uncontested shot.

In Vic’s pregame interview for the radio broadcast he said he had confidence in Shay starting for the injured Morriss and pointed out that Sonya is 38% behind the arc and Holle is 40% and they are even inside the arc.

She gave Tech fits every time they tried to make an inbounds play last night

My observations from the Mood.
1. Ref calls clearly threw off our players and coach. So many were ending up on the ground with no calls. It emboldened Tech to be more physical. At some point, we were trying to avoid injuries. Only quick call against Tech was the player trying to pull Harmon's shorts down from the rear. I have a theory that OU and Texas leaving made the refs change their attitude towards these two teams in terms of calls. It's the treatment.
2. Holle knows when she is on or not and does not take shots when she is off. Gread judgment.
3. KVUE showed bickering between coaches, but it must have been from the other game, not this one. No reason not to be civil when we dominated them so much.
4. We clearly need to practice full court press with all our fast players on the bench.

They had a camera crew rush up to tape the coaches smiling and shaking hands in the pre-game welcome line. Must have been from last year. If the background was Erwin Center in that video, than for sure.

65 trips to the line almost evenly divided between teams. As much as I hated all the whistles, imagine the outcome in Lubbock had the trips to the line not been so lopsided. 30 for them. 6 for us. Still pisses me off.

A lot of posts have mentioned the officiating. Almost always, if you noticed the refs, something was wrong. You want game, not calls. We played a good game, even minus Sonya, at home against Tech. Should have been an opportunity to get revved up and get rowdy. Not sure how it was in person, but for me on tv it was fits and starts. Every time it got good, the refs brought it to a stop. I agree that something has to change and I agree that too many refs don't understand women and how they play the game. I suggested previously that only women should ref women's games. Got poopooed. I stand by that. If men want to ref women's games, they should have to spend a season in the stands, watching women play.

Kyndall Hunter was in attendance for the game last night and though she was wearing burnt orange gear, all of the pics in her instagram story were of her and Ashley Chevalier.

They claim to be besties. Between the two of them little to no basketball being played the past year ironically/coincidentally
