Transfer Portal 2024

Notre Dame big, Natalija Marshall, has entered the portal as a grad transfer. Don’t know anything about her other than she is listed to be 6’5”.

Sophomore 6’ shooting guard, Adlee Blacklock, has entered the portal out of Oregon State. She’s a Texas girl from Lubbock.

Karen Aston got Texas into her Top 5 and even got at least 2 visits to Austin which is no short trip - Marshall and her family were coming from Queens, NY. With her frame and length, I always thought she'd project out to a stretch 4 rather than a traditional center.

So help me with all these transfers. My understanding is that for WBB, portal entries have to have a new home by May 1. Correct? Or is that just the last day to enter portal and then a player has 30 days after entry to find new home? I’m trying to figure out when Schaefer might be adding.

May 1st is the deadline to enter.

Blari Schaefer started following guard Mjracle Sheppard out of Miss. State on Instagram

These Montverde kids have restless feet - that’s at least 3 in the portal off the top of my head - Janiah Barker, Lety Vasconcelos and now Sheppard. I thought our Montverde alum (Jordana) might consider entering.

I think it's kind of telling that so far Blair (who coaches guards) only started following two transfers in Center, Kyla Oldacre and now PF Timea Gardiner. Until I see Elena, Blair, or Lindsay follow some transfers at other positions, that's all I have to go on as to where our focus lies.
Timea's Portal announcement popped into my feed today - I assume because Blair, Elena, Taylor and Jak all 'Liked' it. Makes me wonder - if Texas is in good to great shape to land her, could that have spurred DeYona to move on?

BTW - Last night I saw at least 4 Twitter posts from accounts that are usually decently dialed into WBB stating there would be "internet-breaking" Portal news today. Could be fishing for interactions but who knows.

Some people mentioned "last 2 years" about Gaston's next stop, but as her message says "last year". What's good for the goose is good for the gander. We take people on their last year and don't ask about "why", so just shrug your shoulders and tell her she's welcome back anytime.

Perhaps the "last year" she mentions is that automatic COVID year, and the additional year of eligibility after that (from the redshirt season) must be applied for. I don't know... you'd have to ask someone more familiar like Taylor Jones, Shaylee Gonzalez, or Ayoka Lee (about to return to KSU for her 7th year).

Thanks. She might qualify for a medical red shirt for her freshman season.

Can a college basketball player participate in a limited number of games and still redshirt in order to maintain their eligibility for that year?

According to the NCAA redshirt eligibility rules in basketball, a player can redshirt if they do not compete in more than four games or 30% of the season's total games, whichever is greater [[2]]. For example, if a team plays a 30-game season, a player can participate in up to nine games without losing their redshirt status. However, if the season consists of only 20 games, the limit would be six games.

Looks like Dee was a little bit over the limit for a red shirt in her freshman year, as she appeared in 11 games in a 31 game season.

Players from UConn did start following Raegan Beers on Instagram, but so did Rori Harmon and players from Duke, UCLA, USC, Baylor, OU, etc. She is also following Rori and Taylor Jones; can't know for sure if that's a new follow from Taylor, and Beers following her.

Taylor/Jak/Beers are all old follows. Rori is new. Beers is following Rori too.

WBB fan/friend of mine asked, "What about that Hailey Van Lith I heard she left LSU" After gagging for a moment, I reminded her that she taunted Texas during the win against us in the second round last year.

Pass.

She would be an upgrade.

She would be an upgrade.
Probably true.. but if I'm running a top-tier program I'm not going to be anybody's third school. That's not coming from a place of arrogance but, unless there was a coaching change involved somewhere that made a player leave, I just wouldn't be willing to take on a player who bounces around trying to find the perfect fit.
