Training Camp

Rod Babers said on a podcast what I have been saying.
Everything is in place to have a very successful season; players and the coaches and behind the scenes administrators.
His only concern is WILL SARK BE A 4TH QUARTER COACH AND FINISH GAMES WITH A "W". Can Sark make adjustments and tough decisions for a favorable ending. He hasn't seen Sark do that.
The jury is still out. But I think he has some good help that may make a difference.

Not sure why the head coach of Texas needs help.
I have yet to see any significant game adjustments on offense or defense.
We have the team to go 13-0, but coaching is our biggest deficiency.

I am hoping coaching improves, but you are what your record says you are.

If I remember correctly his plan was to make under performers eat burnt hot dogs.
It pains me that we even have to reflect on binder boy but I do understand. Yes I am equally enthused about this season but not because of press conferences. They are just that, propaganda. I want to see results. This team has the players to compete. The outstanding question is do we have the coaching? I am hopeful that answer is YES. If so the train keeps rolling.

TH used the most idiotic and corny team building methods I have ever heard of.
No wonder we lost to weak teams each year. His only positive was he could win bowl games.

Maybe one of the Maryland teams was, but pretty much everyone else we lost to wasn't weak. Maybe 2017 Tech.

A few weeks ago Rod was breaking down all of the wins last year trying to point out one game that was won because of superior coaching due to adjustments, etc and he couldn't. Although I can't detail those now, he gave specific examples.

He was able to point out two games (tech & TCU) where he was flat out coached.

Just realized that Imma Gonna miss the bama game live as the wife and I will be out at sea. Don't tell me what happened until I watch the recording.

I tend to agree. We went 2-5 in one-score games, and honestly, if ISU and KSU had one more possession against us, they probably pull it out.

Looking at the other 6 games, however, I think you can say that the staff accomplished a couple of things that the 2021 team miserably failed at:
1. Run game adjustments (UTSA and Baylor)
2. Not letting up just when it looked like momentum might shift (OU and WVU)
3. Getting revenge against an up-and-comer who was playing above average football at the time (KU)

I guess the big question of 2023 is whether those one-score games can flip. I think the player leadership (and health) will play a big part in that.

People are sleeping on Conner. He plays next to one of the most dominant OT's in college football, but he's arguably the best G we've had in quite a while. He came in from a system that basically teaches pro schemes to the OL.

Wondering if Hutson is still recovering from the injury.

I bet we play 8 WRs next Saturday. Not including walk-ons if it's a blowout.

Rod Babers on the Longhorns roster level of NFL talent

Kelvin Banks right now, I would have probably the highest pick overall among all the players on the roster because he’s at a premium position, but also as a true freshman you saw him perform at elite levels against draftable prospects.”

Regarding Worthy, “he’s definitely a first-round guy. I don’t know how high, though.”

Babers mentions quarterback first with Quinn Ewers and his massive upside and potential. “All the NFL needs to see is progress from him,” Babers said.

Babers believes (Jaylan) Ford is likely to be a middle round pick.

Babers says (Ja’Tavion Sanders) could be a second-rounder after top-end guys... are picked. “He’s a five-star player.”

Regarding Christian Jones, Babers likes the trajectory he has been on in his career. His NFL future? “A guy who can make a roster.”

Babers then goes into Jordan Whittington’s NFL future, which he sees as starting out as an undrafted free agent. However, “we all know J-Whitt is a ballplayer.”

The interior defensive line trio of Byron Murphy, T’Vondre Sweat, and Alfred Collins all three are considered draftable by Babers.

I think that Babers’ assessment is unnecessarily conservative. For example, these last three – to call them just draftable – surprises me. That suggests a late round pick, or a free agent. I believe that each will do better than that.
