Training Camp

Liona Lefau, LB
We have spotlighted true freshman linebacker and former blue-chip recruit out of Kahuku High School in Hawaii, Liona Lefau, plenty in the last couple of days. The 6-foot-1 and 227-pound first-year mike linebacker has made a lot of plays in camp this week.

Earlier this week, during a post-practice press conference, the preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and standout senior linebacker Jaylan Ford praised Lefau for his work ethic and performance in training camp. Ford noted that Lefau came up with an interception in practice this week.

Lefau reportedly continued to make plays in scrimmage settings this weekend. He forced a fumble from junior All-Big 12 tight end JT Sanders. It sounds like Lefau was really alert and active in the flats in pass coverage in today’s scrimmage.

It was mentioned in a post-scrimmage report that Lefau had “one of the more impressive days from a freshman”.

Lefau continues to make a strong case to lock down the backup mike linebacker job behind Ford heading into the season. He looks like the most mature and impactful off-ball linebacker among the candidates to win the backup mike job through two weeks of training camp.+

I think this one is 100% made up BS. A prevarication. A stinking lie. We have all been assured by our own @Pomspoms that Lefau is too small and weak to contribute.

yeah this report has me trippin.
they must have him confused with someone else.
Lefau, no way. I mean he might contribute when he becomes a redshirt junior.

That's really interesting considering the report HRB posted says the BU QB's both had mixed results. That's a far cry from incredible. And if Arch was great, does that mean the defense sucks?
If only we could do our own assessment of each practice. But unfortunately we have to rely on “insiders” to give us these reports.
We won’t know for sure how good we are on both sides of the ball until September 2.

Yes, which is why most post was a bit of sarcasm. Every pre-season is the same: "Foster looks like the next Quentin Jammer" "Alfio Randle looks like the next Justin Blalock" "Bradford seems like he sucks" "the BYU QB is wearing a knee brace and can't run, all we have to do is defend the pass". I'm also reading "Milroe looks like a poor mans Tyrone Swoops". That one is pretty scary.

I won't believe any of them until I see it for 4 qtrs against Bama. I do have more optimism I've had in a while. But I'm still concerned about the coach being stubborn and not adjusting to what the other team is doing.

This team does give me the optimism and boldness that I have not experienced in decades.
I just hope we stay injury free and just flat *** dominate from start to finish offensively, defensively and special teams. We are past due.

I am afraid our pass blocking is still isn’t top 20.

Y’all crack me up.

:lmao:

So if you ever visit the Islands and one of these “small, weak” Island dudes asks if “You wan beef!?”, you’d best understand he’s not trying to sell you a sirloin or a French Dip roast beef sandwich…

They’re really suffering after the fires on Maui now. It rains a lot (and it’s a different island) where Lefau is from on Windward Oahu, so his folks are probably ok. As for Lefau—if he’s running 2nd string as a true Freshman, he’s doing quite well.

The propaganda machine is in full motion. Glad Vince is there to put a little discipline in the ranks.

I think both Ford and Sorrell are going to tear it up on D this year. Although the sportswriters haven't discovered Sorrell yet.

I admit I am ON the bandwagon in first class drinking extra large Yetis of Burnt orange Koolaid so I might be a tad biased.:coolnana:
BUT did Herman's pressers during training camp sound as though he had a plan knew how he wanted practices to evolve and the players not only bought into it but were taking it even further?

What happened to Jaylon Guilbeau? He had a promising start to last season before getting injured. I see he's still listed on the roster.
I believe he's being brought back slowly to avoid any reinjury. I don't think Catalon played in the scrimmage yesterday to avoid any reinjury and I think they are doing the same with Guilbeau.

Sark has me chuggin' that stuff myself. It's because he reminds me of Bill Parcells. Parcels had his team's practice EVERY aspect of game mngt...including practicing personnel exchange...running on & off the field...signaling time outs...adjusting the package between plays... Unless it's a blow-out game, it's those points of minutiae that win/lose games. Teams that practice those fine points tend to handle them better come game-time.

I'm stoked. So if we don't win the Natty this year, fire Sark & ban 1sa from Hornfans.
