Thread to discuss teams and games not involving Texas in 2021-2022

Last week we were concerned about whether we would be able to take advantage of the Bears slippage. It's looking to me like there are some strong teams in B12, but any can lose on a given night. We showed what we can do against WVU. I think it's up to us and I feel good about that. If we stay focused we can beat anyone. If we lose focus... In the press conference Matharu talked about being humbled after the Kansas loss. The results last night showed what a motivated team can do. We may encounter a few bumps, but I think the team saw what they can do when they are focused. I'm going to watch the game again tonight and enjoy what a talented team can do when they are in sync with their coach.

I am happy on a Sunday. However, the euphoria of a win against a very ordinary WV team doesn’t let me forget the misery of the Tech and KS games. KS is better than most thought as seen by almost besting Baylor today. Things that worked against WV may or may not work against Iowa State. Right now it appears Iowa State may be the class of the conference. I’m cautious about Wednesday in Ames. It’ll take an effort like we saw in the second quarter yesterday for a full game to win in Ames. Fennelly will be ready. I’m trying to prepare myself emotionally to not dive into the ocean of despair after a bad loss. With KState, OU and Baylor back to back…..I need to be guarded. Fun times.

Oregon whupping up on UConn in the second half, can’t say I’m not a tad happy - but of course, the game isn’t over yet.

Oregon beat UConn 72-59, but UConn made 7 points in the last minute, it was a 20 pt game in reality

Oregon beat Arizona just a few days ago too.

Wow, Jennie Baranczyk has really turned the OU program around in just her first year. They were 12-12 last year and is already at 15-2. Looking back at her Drake coaching history, she got them rolling in her 3rd year there. OU's no longer a stagnant program with good recruits transferring out!

It's a surprise that OSU is in the basement, but they did have key players transfer out (to Tech), who itself seems to have found a coach who knows what she's doing.

Things got ugly during/after the game between Barnes and Graves.

"She later took to Twitter to apologize for making a profane gesture with her finger toward Graves."

"Despite the disrespect and being cussed at numerous times, I should have not responded back. If you would choose to sit and get cussed at by a man that's on you and what you are willing to tolerate. But I'm not that woman!"

Barnes didn't specify what was said, but one of her players, Shaina Pellington, later tweeted that her coach was, "Cussed at...in the most VULGAR ways the ENTIRE game by Kelly. We could hear it from the floor while PLAYING, in the most HOSTILE environment. He needs to be held accountable. Simple."

They have wins against Tech, KU, and Baylor. Wouldn't that be nice...?

I won’t focus on it too much because we’ve got our own hands full in Ames tonight, but seeing OU put up 29pts in the 1st Q vs WVU has me terrified. I don’t see how Vic would be able to play Ebo in that game because of how fast they play in transition

It’s been said here before but what Baranczyk has done in her first year is very impressive.

I mean, I guess we had a player leave us already during the season. But down to 9? I guess their new coach doesn't have the "charisma" of the old coach.

I don’t know how to embed or copy McDaniel’s Instagram announcement. Paraphrasing, the post references being in an environment where how you are treated depends on what you can do for someone. Yikes. Sadly, I expect a lot of scholarship athletes relate to the sentiment. It is posted on UConn board and Baylor board.

Edit: I remember what a point Coach Conradt always made of giving public recognition to players who did not play much or had a role that did not result in big stats.

BTW - anyone peek in on aggy recently? Gary Blair's team might struggle to make the tournament. They outscored Ol' Miss last night by 9 in the 4th quarter and still lost by 17. That leaves them at 11-7 (1-5 in SEC play).

I had noticed they started out 0-4 in SEC play. They not only lost to Ole Miss at home they lost to Florida in CS as well. Their only SEC win was Auburn at home.
They are not making our win look all that good unfortunately. Gary Blair probably deserves to go out a little better than this.

Sadly he probably should have gone out a year or so ago but that might have prevented Vic from coming here.

BTW - Florida took down #23 Kentucky by 25 points last night. Wow.

I look on their forum regularly. They have a thread titled “Vic or bust”. Lol

Nothing good ever comes from rooting for Baylor WBB; but, if they beat ISU at home, that helps tighten the conference race. ISU winning on the road in Waco could give them separation in the long run . . .

Wow! K-State is tearing Oklahoma up at half time leading 51-27. Akoya Lee has 32 points. They can not stop her. They are going to be a tough game for the Horns!

So we are #15. And #11,12,13, and 14 all lost at least one game this past week and #7 lost twice. It will be interesting to see the rankings on Monday.

Iowa State got throttled by Baylor today 87-61. They were totally out of sync after Texas took them to the woodshed. The Joens sisters played and Ashley had 19 but the team went 7 for 27 beyond the arc. The conference is in a tight race now!

I don't really want to be in the top 10. I think we're fine in the 'teens for now. After the next 6 games, if we did well, then maybe...

Thursday’s game with UCONN vs South Carolina is off because SC wants to prioritize that date for a makeup SEC game that had been postponed with Ole Miss and it’s the only open date Ole Miss had. UCONN is now traveling to DePaul Wednesday for a makeup game
