Thread to discuss teams and games not involving Texas in 2021-2022

Thursday’s game with UCONN vs South Carolina is off because SC wants to prioritize that date for a makeup SEC game that had been postponed with Ole Miss and it’s the only open date Ole Miss had. UCONN is now traveling to DePaul Wednesday for a makeup game
Interesting that this would have been uconn’s second time to play the same non-conference opponent outside of the tournament.

Iowa State got throttled by Baylor today 87-61. They were totally out of sync after Texas took them to the woodshed. The Joens sisters played and Ashley had 19 but the team went 7 for 27 beyond the arc. The conference is in a tight race now!
Once Baylor picked up their defensive intensity and started pressuring Iowa State it totally messed up their flow. Then Baylor started hitting from downtown and it was all she wrote.

Live by the three, die by the three. Should be the Iowa State motto.

Well, until Geno somehow (?) insulted Pat and she refused to play against him (them) for the rest of her career…RIP, Pat…
What happened was that when recruits went on visits to UConn, they would take the players by ESPN home base 45 miles away as part of the visit. Pat took exception to that saying that it gave UConn and unfair advantage in recruiting. i.e. meet celebrity sportscasters, imagine yourself being featured by ESPN, etc.....
Geno said that was sour grapes and then the feud started.

I remember the ESPN thing being one of the big issues. Specifically I think it was UConn's tactics in the recruitment of Maya Moore that was the final straw.

Baylor almost got beat in Lubbock tonight. OU bounced back against Kansas. Iowa State bounced back as well. The top of the B12 is getting tighter.

I’m reminded that at halftime of the South Carolina vs Ole Miss game on ESPN tonight the first Top-16 reveal is announced. It’s an early game starting at 5:00pm CT

I think we’ll be a 4 seed in this early reveal. It sure would be nice…and important to get to a 3 seed. In ESPNW reveal the 4 seed had Horns matching up with South Carolina in Elite 8. I don’t want that. But it’s early. The two games next week against Baylor will decide that.

We’re ranked #9, power ranking #6, and we are on a hot streak. I bet 3 seed.

Personally, I think we are a nightmare 3 and a weak 2.

Baylor's NET ranking is not good, is it? Seems strange to say, but I don't think victory(ies) over Baylor would be our best in-conference wins this season.

Tonight's reveal probably won't include games through last night, so our KSU win might not be factored in. They'll probably add a disclaimer that rankings are based on games played through this past Sunday or Monday.

FYI -- I'm still irked we let a win at Tennessee slip through our fingers last month!

You’re probably correct. We simply GAVE the TN game away. I’m with you on still being mad about that. I hope the bad losses…..we deserved those two….to Tech and KS are minimized.

I’m much more irked about the two conference losses at home where the team played so poorly as opposed to the overtime loss to TN on the road. Texas would have a nice (lone) lead in the conference standings right now (not to mention a better ranking). The TN loss would be considered a “good loss” the other two bad losses in my opinion.

I agree with Hornview. The in-conference losses were much more damaging. As for Baylor, I think they'll be a test because we have such a longterm dismal record against them. They've been in our heads. This year we, so far, are as good or better than them. We need to prove it in the games. Vic needs to have them ready.

Also, regarding the seeding, as was mentioned, we were a 4 according to ESPNW and in SC's bracket. They're overall 1, so that would make us the lowest 4 - which equates to 16th. Yet we're 9th in the rankings. What am I missing?
