I'm not a big Trump defender and he did say plenty of stupid things about Putin, but what exactly did he do to grease the skids for this? Democrats have talked a lot of **** about Russia over the last few years, but they've been very weak in real action. Obviously, nobody is going to stop Putin, but we can't even get real sanctions.

You're right. We didn't go to war over the Sudetenland, but did the West make the right decision? At the time, it looked like they did. War was averted for a little while, and we had what looked like a peace deal.

But what ended up being the real consequences? First, we massively provoked Hitler by showing him that he could basically push us around at will. Second, we enabled Hitler to put the Wehrmacht into a geographic position to easily crush the rest of Czechoslovakia. They were defenseless. Third, we gave Germany even more time to build its military, which was happening at breakneck speed. Fourth, we completely screwed an ally and drove it into the arms of the Stalin, who wasn't stupid and naive enough to be a party to the Munich Agreement, and after the war, they (and the rest of Eastern Europe) were very untrusting of the West and therefore put up little resistance to the post-war Soviet domination of Eastern Europe. So yes, we didn't go to war over the Sudetenland, but by every serious measure, not only was it a bad decision, it ended up being catastrophic on a massive level.

And do remember that a similar ******** reason was raised to attack Poland. The only reason we went to war after the invasion of Poland is that we finally figured out that Hitler wasn't going to stop. By the time they happened, the Wehrmacht (which was supposed to be very limited in size under prior treaties that no one had the balls to enforce) was a massive, full-blown killing machine that was damn near unstoppable. Had we not been so weak, it almost surely would have saved tens of millions of lives.



Do I think they're going to attack Kiev? Well, if what Mus is saying is true, Russia is demanding that Ukraine renounce NATO and demilitarize. They would be insane to do either. Russia sent troops into their territory. If Putin truly doesn't want Ukraine to join NATO, he just gave them about the biggest reason imaginable to try to join. They're going to press harder than ever and sure as hell aren't going to demilitarize. That would be national suicide.

I'm not for going to war right now, but it's not hard to see where this is going in the long term. It's not going to end with these provinces, and it's not going to end with Ukraine. We need to be ready.

Actually, we didn’t go to war over Poland—UK and France did. Oddly enough, they did not also go to war with the Soviet Union—another vicious and evil nation that also attacked Poland around the same time per its unsacred pact with the Nazis—their totalitarian cousins.
 
I gather that Putin sees the world something like this:

There are a number of Superpowers, each with its own sphere of influence which resides in nearby lands and waters. Us is one and our sphere is the entire Western Hemisphere. Russia is another and their sphere is Eastern Europe, the northern part of the Middle East, and Siberia/Mongolia. China is a third, and their proper sphere is East Asia. (Japan is ignored and not discussed—they’ve kicked Russia’s a$$ hard before). Other Superpowers should butt out when a Superpower exerts influence and does whatever within its own sphere. Weaker nations within a sphere are the Sphere’s Superpower’s little brothers. Oh, and this worldview was invented by none other than the USA with our Monroe Doctrine. It should apply worldwide as described above.

That seems to capture Putin pretty well.

Maybe bubba can explain how getting other member nations to pay what they AGREED to pay but weren't is trying to get rid of NATO.

Stolen election got us a weak, feckless and incompetent ******* POTUS. His DISASTROUS pullout of Afghanistan gave Putin all the feedback he needed to invade Ukraine.

So, this with Bejing Joe killing American energy independence.... you and I can bend over real soon and start paying $5 .... or more for gas very soon.

Sleepy Joe may be at huge turning point in history. Old KGB dude Putin may be ambitious enough to think he has the chance to flex Russian muscle and can aggressively add back former USSR countries. You know Bubba, get the band back together.

Russians are threatening cyber attacks on America due to sanctions. Think outside the box....

I take that threat seriously and so should you. I cant take precautions about everything they could do to the country or to me or my family. However, I have already taken several $$$$ in cash out of the bank to get by, if I have to, for the short term.

Plus, I have been very prepared for several years to live without city water, power, food, consumables for at least 6 months plus "defend us" (no, I'm not Morman).

The Russians may not harm us, but WHAT IF their hackers do harm the US power grid and or other American assets? A lot of unknowns at this point...

What Putin’s goal is may be far worse (for the US). Yes, he has stated that the nations added to NATO after 1997 must remove offensive weapons are he would; so they have a target on their back. But here’s the key thing. If the combination of military failure, collapse of the economy caused by trillions of debt and inflation, more authoritarianism at home, and over extending our military frontprint harms Western Europe, it’s not out of the question that some of those long-time allies drop the US and reach out to China and Russia. Sounds preposterous, but we have goons and idiots running our show.

With our weak leadership putin knew once he forcibly took over Ukraine, we ( nor NATO apparently) don't have the balls to go into Ukraine to remove them. Too bloody.. Putin made the determination he could get away with this from the weak response given.

Biden has cost us dearly. Our economy is about to take an even bigger hit because of his poor leadership.

Taiwan, you're up.

I advised my sons, friends and coworkers last week or so to consider the hit the market will take if Russia invades and energy prices rocket up. The market HATES uncertainty and plenty is coming for weeks / months...
