The Protesters: Useful Idiots

My wife is a middle school teacher. Yesterday she noticed a hispanic boy in her class that looked like he had been crying and was clearly distraught. She pulled him aside to ask him what was wrong and he shared that his parents are both illegal immigrants. He was born in the US but is mortified that his family will be impacted by a Trump administration.

How does a teacher handle this? My wife alerted the counselor and his other teachers for awareness even though there is nothing they can do.

I'm skeptical of some of the stories of kids harassing ethnic and religious minority students.

I don't equate this kid's dilemma with what other liberals are whining about. For most of them, it's just nonsensical hyperbole and silliness to make themselves look and feel PC and sensitive. Furthermore, they're adults who should know better. For this kid, the consequences of Trump's election are real, and I sympathize with him a lot more.

I don't know what to tell him. I hope Trump ultimately approaches the issue with a higher degree of nuance than he did during the primary elections and leaves this kid with nothing to fear. I'd like to think he will, but there's no way to know.

The nuance Trump should use is the law. His job is to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

Here is another part of the law Trump should apply to immigrants:
(f) Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by President
Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate. Whenever the Attorney General finds that a commercial airline has failed to comply with regulations of the Attorney General relating to requirements of airlines for the detection of fraudulent documents used by passengers traveling to the United States (including the training of personnel in such detection), the Attorney General may suspend the entry of some or all aliens transported to the United States by such airline.

He can prioritize how and against whom the law is enforced. For example, he can and should prioritize the deportation of violent criminals and legitimate terror threats. That protects the public from intentional physical violence, which should be the highest priority. I'd put drug dealers and pretty criminals a little lower than that. I'd put DWI offenders a little lower than that. I'd put nuisance offenders (drivers without insurance, etc.) a little lower than that. In the deportation priority hierarchy, otherwise law abiding illegal immigrants who have minor children that are US citizens and therefore not subject to deportation should be close to the bottom.

He can also direct his efforts to other immigration-related priorities such as border security, building the wall (I think it's a dumb idea, but he clearly has a mandate to do it, which I respect.), visa and travel restrictions from countries that are high risk for housing terrorists, prosecuting businesses and contractors that hire illegal aliens, etc.

Yes, he can prioritize, but he is not supposed to use that prioritization as a means to ignore the law. That is what Obama is doing. Most immigration arguments emphasize the harm done to families that have violated the laws of the United States, but ignore the harm done to legal residents as a result of the violations.

He doesn't have to ignore the law as Obama did with his EOs and as Hillary would have done to a much greater degree. However, there's nothing wrong with focusing on the murderer more than you focus on the guy who spits on the sidewalk.

And of course, laws can be changed. Accommodations can be made to keep minor children from losing their parents while still securing the border and deporting bad apples and those with no real connection to the United States.

I agree that the greater risk to society should be dealt with first. I fail to see how a minor child would "lose" their parents for any length of time, unless said "parents" were not capable of parenting in the first place.

Yes, the rules can be changed. Until such changes occur, following the law is probably the best route to take.

Seems to be alot of this going around .....
One conclusion is pretty clear -- irony is lost on Democrats

Here's my brilliant idea. Sell Cali to Mexico. Take the proceeds and build the wall. "Mexico is gonna pay for it".

CA residents who oppose becoming a part of Mexico are racists. :smile1:

Looks like ole Sally got it *** backwards

So....if Kohn was completely wrong on this, and the rest of her media buddies were just as wrong, why the hell should you even listen to them?

That was probably the last straw that pushed me over to vote for him. I could not believe anything the media was telling me. 90% of what they reported on him was either completely made up, editorial presented as reporting, actual facts - but completely out of context/spun by amateurs who don't understand the context, or manufactured by the DNC.

Why would any child have to be separated from a parent?
Wouldn't any caring parent want to keep their child with them?

As of this moment, twitter has allowed this hashtag
Quite a contrast with some of the hashtags they banned recently, like #HillarysHealth.
They also banned Clint Eastwood for a pro-Trump tweet, LOL

I love it. When something ridiculous and improper is done by a small fraction of Republicans, you reject all attempts to attribute their conduct to Republicans generally. But when something ridiculous and improper is done by a small fraction of Democrats, you attribute the conduct to all Democrats.

As we learned through Project Veritas, the violence at the early Trump rallies was fake. Those incidents were arranged and paid for by shady Dem operatives. You will notice that, once this political darkness was exposed to the light of day, the violence stopped immediately. But for James O'Keefe and company, we would not have been able to prove it allowing people like you to deny it. Yet, here, you seem to be charging forth on this false narrative despite the full and complete admissions captured on film. Shameful.

But that's OK -- because love trumps hate.

Please check out the hashtag i gave above on twitter right now (#AssassinateTrump)
Then come back and tell us its only a "fraction"
If you take a few minutes of time to look and take it all in, you will see that it goes on, and on, and on, and on ........
