They can't see it easily. especially with Commercial real estate. the value is what the market will bear and that is driven by rents. The bank asks borrowers to provide income statements and then they ask you to attest to the veracity of these statements and then they tell you that IT IS A CRIME to lie on these statements. Do other people lie, yes of course they do. And those people are committing a crime also. Banks have a slue of due diligence they can do but if you are willing to commit fraud, you can get past some of it. If you really wanted to, you could use a software program to generate a really sophisticated paystub for your residential lender that showed way more income than you really make. But that is fraud, and that is a crime and if caught, you will go to jail and or pay a big fine.

I do have commercial property and it doesn't look that hard to me. I can see lying about income being illegal but that's not what we've been talking about on the boards here.

ok. fair enough, but I have done Lending on both residential and commercial property and I can tell that it is hard to know all the details. You rely a great deal on the customer to provide you data and then you tell them that lying on the application IS A CRIME. It doesn't mean that you don't also try to independently verify the info but some of it is very difficult to validate and you do rely on honest disclosure by the borrower. Borrower fraud is most definitely a thing, and it is most definitely a crime.

This is a wild story, Raheem Kassam looked into who fact checked one of his posts that got flagged on FB/Instagram and found it was outsourced to some ragtag outfit no one’s ever heard of in India.

Indeed, if you go to their website their “research team” is less than impressive. The executive editor touts being a “seasoned journalist with over 18 years of experience,” but when you click on his LinkedIn, it turns out he only has a couple years in questionable outlets.
Editorial & Medical Advisory Team – THIP

Other members are even worse. Their head researcher’s “12 years of work experience” primarily includes 11 years as a content writer, “Providing content support for digital marketing campaigns.”

Another fact checker has a laughably vague resume; “10 years of experience working as a professional in multiple industries including events and training.” With no LinkedIn, photo or other corroborating info. It’s legitimate to wonder where these people came from or if they even exist.

Don’t get me wrong, rag tag groups of fact checkers are fine! Get out there, try to make a name for yourself and grow an audience. But this one is funded by Google, and is used by giant social media companies to flag posts, when no one has ever heard of them, which is a bit creepy.

Sounds to me like they are screwing google as well. Funded by google is a little aggressive.
