Texas WBB 2024-2025 Season

Has there been any explanation from ESPN-SEC about the lack of play by play announcers for the SEMO game? Perhaps that will be the way it will be but I find it very odd. I may try listening to Craig Way on radio while watching the game on n Wednesday. Getting each synced with the other is a challenge though.
Yes, that was pathetic. So this is what the SEC network is like with non-marquis games? At least they had the old LHN team on the Lamar broadcast.

TCU took down a good NC St. 76-73.
Prince with 31 points and 16 rebounds. Van Lith 18 pts. 10 assists.
TCU may have a team this year.

It sure is frustrating to look at all the WBB games tonight and they are all 30+ point blowouts. Except one at 11. It appears there are more of these every year. This weekend S.C., UCLA, ND, and USC will break that mold. But just aren’t many. Sure would be nice to stream a competitive game on a Tuesday night. And get ready for Tarlton State tomorrow at 11 am.

If this has been discussed already, my apologies. I don’t understand why we are going 9 days without a game at this point in the schedule. Why not a game this weekend before the holiday break? Especially considering the game last week was the school field trip game that most ticket holders don’t attend.

Not sure if anyone is aware or not, but Vic's weekly media conferences are available on the LHN app, as well as post game pressers. I had to discover that for myself.
Anyway, he talked about that very thing in this week's conference... The long stretch off before Thanksgiving. He also mentioned the challenges of "getting comfortable in our own gym" due to limited availability of the Moody Center. That, because of all the other events being held there.

Well that is extremely disappointing. Fighting to get into your own gym 🤦

Well its not really " our" gym. I believe the Oak View Group stll calls the shots.
But hey, UT still owns the land. So there's that.
Meh, seems like some kind of excuse to me. More than half of the roster has played in Moody and five of those are starters. What's the problem?

Whatever the case, it's our home court. There's definitely a bigger home court advantage when you workout on it every day. But the situation is what it is.

Dont ask me what the problem is. I guess you can ask coach if its an excuse.

The early non-conference schedule and lack of games has been a travesty; no other way to put it regardless of the reasons/excuses.

I would like to see more games here, too. However, I have a lot of faith in Vic. Look where he has taken us. I think we'll get through this hiccup.

Yes, I don't understand this scheduling business. First we play our first game almost a week after everyone else and then there's this prolonged period without any games and, as you said, the next games are not televised (unless you pay). Don't teams have to play a certain number of games over a season per the NCAA? I'm sure Vic knows what is required but I still don't like waiting so long between games.

And, it's not just about us fans. Players want to play in actual games and in front of fans; daily practice becomes monotonous.

Elite players want to play in marquee games where they are on TV.

This has to improve or it will be used against us in recruiting.

I, too, I'm a bit frustrated because I'm anxious to see us play more often. But, at the end of the day, we are scheduled for the maximum number of games allowed if I'm not mistaken:

31 Regular Season
3 Potential SEC Tourney
6 Potential NCAA Tourney
-------------------------------
40 Total Games

When Vic addressed this topic in his last week's presser, he mentioned that it would be pretty much non-stop after Thanksgiving.

One of the issues that Vic mentioned is that they are having a difficult time finding non-conference teams to come play us here. That is why he scheduled a trip to DePaul and the upcoming tournament this weekend. Otherwise the game gap would have been worse. Does anyone know if we scheduled a home and home with Notre Dame? Or are we just going there and that's it.

Yes, that's also why we're going on the road to James Madison and Richmond University on back-to-back weekends. The game at Notre Dame is part of this SEC / ACC challenge.

Good question. I'm really excited about our game against Notre Dame

The Texas program definitely needs to be involved in some marquee matchups. Yes, were playing Maryland in January... but we need to be playing more top ten teams in the non-conference schedule.

Isn’t Maryland a non-conference game?
Yes, and they are back in the Top 10 at the moment. But we specifically need to see some better matchups early on... Like the matchups we saw this weekend with UCLA/South Carolina and USC/Notre Dame. I wish we could get a regular home and home with UConn. Back in Jody's days we always had good non-conference schedules... I'd like to see those return.

I have very mixed feelings about scheduling tough non-conference teams. The common narrative is that there is a benefit to playing tough opponents to better prepare for your conference schedule and postseason seeding.

Is there a benefit? Last year we played 8 very mediocre teams prior to the UConn game and beat them convincingly, 80 - 68. Our uninspiring pre-UConn schedule did not hamper our readiness for that very big game.

How the UConn game prepared us for conference play was completely overshadowed by losing Rori and the subsequent loss to our first conference opponent, Baylor. The Madison Booker story ended up dominating the season more than any pre-conference scheduling.

Of course, the downside of a tough non-conference schedule is the risk to your W/L record. Those L's don't do you much good and are only partially compensated by a higher strength of schedule.

Also, I don't see the recruiting advantage; if you can't inspire recruits by playing in the toughest bball conference, you're doomed anyway.

To be honest, I think fans just enjoy a season more if we have a tough schedule, whether it provides any benefit to the team or not.

It's really sad to see such low attendance at the Gulf Coast Showcase. Maybe just 500 to 800 fans total, most of them are die-hard Texas fans and family that traveled there.

The FloHoops channel is not worth $29/month, but I paid so I could see them play this weekend. Will be canceling after tonight's game.
