Some thoughts for the morning after:
Washington was the better team, and if Texas had won, it would’ve been an absolute fluke. Quinn had a rough game, but the penalties and the inability of our defensive backfield to stop any of those deep throws many of which were just phenomenal throws, was a killer. As good as the throws were, you’ve got to defend at least one or two of them better. Ultimately, Penix really was the difference in the game. I have no idea how he is the fifth rated quarterback in this draft class because last night he looked as good as any quarterback I have seen play against Texas since Burrow in 2019.
While losing last night stinks, it doesn’t take away from the fact that this team achieved everything I realistically hoped it would achieve back in August and set a standard as Texas moves into the SEC that I believe sets up the Horns for success, the same way the early Mack Brown teams set up the run from 2004 to 2009.
