TEXAS VS WASHINGTON- GAME THREAD

Yeah I just ignored the Ewers hate as frustrated posters….and it certainly was a frustrating game to watch.

Quinn was playing hurt that game.
Lots of Clemson posters are blaming Klubnik for their lousy season. So there's that.
So they both are not Championship QB's, but Ewers hasn't been able to make the next step. The ou and Washington Ewers wasn't Championship caliber when he needed to be.

Neither were Colt or Vince their Jr. years. Give Quinn UW's line or UM's line and let's see how he does.

Ewers was 1 second away from putting his Texas Longhorns into the national championship game. Quite the accomplishment after being at the helm for less than 2 seasons.
Same with Sark getting us to this point in year 3!!
This.

I'm as disappointed as anyone after the loss, but things are going in the right direction for this program. Go back to the beginning of the season and see how many Texas fans or commentators had us in the CFP this season.

In addition, many independent analysts are saying that Penix's performance was likely the best QB outing since the CFP began. I don't know I agree, but to go up against that and still have a shot at winning the game is nothing to sneeze at. We could have played better and made fewer mistakes, sure. But losing this game is nothing to be ashamed of.

I'll be pulling for Washington next Monday.

I didn't like the 1st down call. I thought 4 shots into the end zone were needed, and I don't understand what the 1st down throw was designed to accomplish.

Sark said during the post game presser that it was supposed to be a jump ball to Sanders or JWhitt but they were covered so Ewers practically threw it away because we didn't have much time left and try again on the next down.

I can’t bring myself to read all these negative posts. Doing so would make me want to get my sponsorship back.
Let’s just sum this game up realistically. We played a very good football team who was red hot. Penix is very good but his receivers are elite. Without an in-depth play count, I can say that they made no less than 240 yards on miracle, circus catches. Tipped balls, over the shoulder through DBs hands, off the turf, you name it. Those 6 or 8 passes could have all been incomplete and nobody would have blamed the receivers. Ewers, who is not short, had 6 passes tipped at the line. That isnt talent, that’s just pure, dumb luck to get hands up in the exact right place. All these things are just part of the game, but to have ALL of them break for WU defies all statistical reasoniing. None of this is Ewers fault, Sarks fault, or the fault of weak DB play. There weren’t any badly blown coverage or serious talent mismatches. There is almost zero way that their “luck quotient” could be improved. They lived a totally charmed 60 minutes of football. A penalty for low block on the defense. No such rule exists. Pure on-the-spot creativity. Block in the back that wasn’t because ‘the play was over’. I believe that is the definition of a late hit.
A fumble on a hard fought shot at extra yards is an error of commission of extra effort. Those things happen. But through all of this, UT was one very makable fade or slant from the win. This isn’t a case of glass half empty or full. It is a case of “luck counts” And on Jan 1, 2024, Washington had the lions share of the luck. Texas is a stallion loaded team coached by the best in the game. Be damned assured, this wont be a novel Championship run. We can do this!

I'll be pulling for Washington to get their balls violently stomped into mush
Did you see the video of some of their players after the game talking **** with Texas fans, not just banter but like really ugly and insulting trash talk
**** them

Agree with what you said except this sentence. For 3/4 of the game they were all over the place. The question is was it scheme or lack of talent? Texas has gone from DBU to a lot of hope with raw but talented athletes in the defensive backfield. Last night the priority should have been, don't let the receiver get behind you because if he does the QB is going to make the play. Receivers got behind the DB and the QB made the play. (The same problem with ou's last drive.)

Probably a little of both sides.
Much like with the bama fans with our guys after our game with them.
It's usually the fans.

Let us not forget that this is a man likely in his 40s yelling at possible teenagers or players in their early 20s.

Two additional thoughts:

Given that Penik was throwing perfect passes and his receivers were making catches even with good coverage, if coaching, I probably would’ve told the DBs — Watts in particular — to just commit the PI. A 15 yard penalty beats a 50-70 yard gain. I believe that Brooks’ PI late in the game resulted in a field goal instead of a touchdown.

Given that we didn’t sack Penix even once, I was wondering why we didn’t blitz Ant Hill from the right side of the D-line four or five times, forcing the lefty QB to roll to his right. After all, nothing else was working. I think we failed to take advantage of Hill’s unique skill set.

If someone had told me in August that this team, coming off 5-7 and 8-5, would end up 12-2, play in the CFP, have only 2 losses...both to ranked teams and by a combined total of 10 points, I would have said they were crazy. But, here we are. And we are loaded. And we are continuing to load. Am I disappointed? Yes. But also hopeful....and very proud of what this team did this year.

Man, it's tough the day after to have a play in your pocket that you are 100% positive would have worked on fourth down. We'll never know, of course. But I keep playing it over and over in my head and it ends with Mitchell making an easy catch in the front corner of the end zone followed by Auburn's PAT and UW players, coaches and fans sitting in stunned silence. And me being stunned as well, thinking I can't believe we won this game!! Give me a few more days and I'll be feeling like my normal self. But today was depressing.

??
Vince lost one game his 3rd year in college. We can thank Greg Davis for that abortion vs ou. One loss. Same as ewers.

Vince was the mvp of the Rose Bowl that year. Unbelievable performance vs Michigan. Ewers??

No comparison, those two.

Uw player > He'll be "running" a Sonic drive in before he's 30yo. Pinnacle of his post football career

Husky players and fans are OBNOXIOUSLY gloating losers! F 'em!

I dont like either team, program, their issues, but i want the Wolverines to win!

The ut fan in that video is an embarrassment. I don’t care what those two uw players said it did.

The Texas fan, esp with kids nearby, is an embarrassment. Equally or more so are the players. So after a big win you choose not to celebrate with teammates, but to run to the stands and talk trash to fans? Classy.

A lot of us have been in simular situations on a much, much smaller scale. The thought of running over to the stands and talking **** to parents, students, fans didn't even register. Those players showed a lack of class

Ewer’s missed a year of football. So, yes it’s not a good comparison. Next year for Ewers will be a better comparison.

Makes sense given that we are looking for another portal WR.

It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Mitchell, Worthy and Sanders were leaving..
There was some talk during the Sugar bowl practices that Mitchell and Sanders may be coming back.
In regards to the portal ,we were always going to take 2 wR's.
Worthy has already announced he is going to the NFL...Guess we'll find out soon on the other 2.

UDub players pimping FANS in the stands after the game - showing a lot of class..... ALL of it low!!!

After the incomplete to AD the defender, who had no involvement on the ball this was the overthrow, went straight to the Tex fans in the EZ stands and gave them the horns up / then turned down. I wonder if this was same hero to the same fans?
