Texas v. Baylor Game 2

I just hope this team did not peak too early, they were rolling offensively for a while but not in the last 3 games.

The pitching continues to be the backbone of this team and if we are going to have the bats go back to sleep now is the time and not later this month and in June. Have to think that Augie will be able to take advantage of the offensive woes that started with UTSA and re-focus the team. Sundays are the day to wake them up so hopefully tomorrow sees the change.

Now lets get three outs and the win.

well crap the error bug bites at worst possible time.

Looks like we're in for some drama here in the top of the ninth. Vick leads off with a single to short and reaches second courtesy of an error from Loy. Tying run is in scoring position with no outs. I guess Cole is going to have to win this one by HIMSELF.

As if to reinforce my comment, Rupp lets one get by him; Vick advances to third on the passed ball. Bronx cheers for this "team" effort tonight!

Green sits down Campbell on seven pitches. One away.

The count to Hainsfuhrer runs even before a single to right plates Vick. After 26+ scoreless innings, Green finally allows a run thanks to two free bases courtesy of Loy and Rupp. Way to go, fellas. Win or lose, you should feel bad about that one.

Moving along, Ruffin is in to close for Green. Chance immediately jumps in front of Towey, 1-2. Towey then lifts a fly ball to center for out No.2. One on, two away. Glime (0-for-3 on the evening) up.

Glime falls behind in the count, 0-2, but still reaches first courtesy of a beaning. Not only does that put two on, it also means Baylor's lone score is now "earned" despite Cole having done nothing more than surrender a pair of singles.

Muncy is next with a fielder's choice to third. Kevin Lusson forces out Hainsfuhrer to end the threat, but not before the Bears plate a run and knot the score at 1-all.

2-3-4 hitters up for Texas in the bottom of the ninth.

And there is the tying run.

Cole pitches an absolutely awesome game and the bats just hang him out to dry. Taylor has been a hard luck no decision a bunch this year today it looks like Cole is getting the treatment.

Chance coming on to try and close this down and give Horns opportunity to win in bottom of ninth.

--Two errors and a passed ball didn't exactly help, either.--

yep, if Chance can get out of inning with no additional hits then run is unearned.

Like last night it is still better to win ugly then lose pretty so lets get a run and another ugly win here.

Loy lines to left for a lead-off single. Game-winning runner is aboard with no outs. Shepherd up.

Tant sacrifices Loy to second with a bunt back to the pitcher, who relays to first for out No.1. Winning run is now in scoring position with one out and Rupp up.

Rupp runs the count to 2-2 before staring at strike three. That's 11 Ks on the day for Texas, several of them looking.

Baylor's reliever, Kempf, intentionally walks Moldenhauer to put runners on first and second with two outs. Augie reaches into his bag of tricks and opts to pinch hit Paul Montalbano for Kyle Lusson.

Montalbano watches two balls before a swing and a miss. Strike one. Another ball and Kempf is now behind in the count to Montalbano, 3-1. Kempf issues another ball to put Montalbano on first and load the bases. Well done, Paul. Kevin Lusson up.

Turley in to pitch for Kempf. Should the game go to extra innings, Texas' superior bullpen depth could prove the difference.

Kevin swings and misses at Turley's initial offering. Strike one. Another swing and a miss and Texas' hopes of ending the game in regulation are down to one strike. Lusson watches a ball go by and the count is 1-2. He can't catch up to the next pitch, either, and the inning ends harmlessly.

On to extra innings with the score knotted, 1-1.

This is where the defensive sub for Keyes hurts. Come on Kyle be a hitter son.

And as I post Montalbano pinch hitting so come on Paul be a hitter son.

another extra inning game, tough to leave bases loaded there. Havent had a clutch hit tonight since the second inning.

Ruffin, who went three innings last night, starts the 10th for Texas. He continues his daredevil antics by walking the leadoff batter.

Lambert hits into a fielder's choice and Ringenberger is forced out at second. Bear on first, one out, with Ware up.

Ever the battler, Chance gets Ware to strike out swinging after Ware had fouled off five-straight pitches.

Vick puts runners on first and second with a 2-0 single to center. Campbell (2-for-4 on the evening) up.

Ruffin gets the job done, striking out Campbell on four pitches to escape the inning and preserve the tie. On to the bottom of the 10th with the score still even at 1-apiece. 8-9-1 hitters up for Texas.
