K State beating OU big today so this is to stay 4 games ahead in loss column. Cole Green on mound for Texas has had 2 straight complete games. Horns have chance to set new Big XII record for streak of wins in conference at 16.
Etier strikes out.
Walla follows with a single to center. The hit goes wasted, however, as Cohl is later picked off.
Loy ends the inning with a lineout to third.
Top of the fifth and Cole Green starts off Cal Towey with a strike. Towey takes another and two balls before staring at a called strike three. One down.
Gregg Glime runs the count full before grounding out to second. Two away.
Muncy singles to left, then steals second. It's all for naught, however, as Gedwed follows with a fly ball to center that Rowe catches for out No.3.
After 5.5, it's Texas 1, Baylor 0. Keyes, Lusson, and Rowe are on deck.
Keyes kicks off the bottom of the fifth with--what else?--a K looking. Kevin Lusson flies to right for the second out of the inning. Rowe battles, running the count full, but ultimately makes it a 1-2-3 inning for the Bears with a flyout to center.
Through 5, it's 1-0, Texas. Lambert, Ware, and Logan due up for the Bears in the top of the sixth.
Ware does the same, but reaches first safely after Lusson boots it. E5. One down, one on.
Vick flies to center for out No.2. Runner does not advance.
Campbell then laces a double to right. Ware tries to stretch for home but is thrown out. Texas escapes the inning unscathed, still clinging to its 1-0 advantage.
Hainsfuhrer opens the top of the seventh with a 3-1 groundout. One away.
Loy scoops up a ground ball from Towey and relays to Shepherd for out No.2.
Cole induces yet another grounder to short for out No.3. We're at the stretch and it's still Texas 1, Baylor 0. Sure would be nice if the bats (and baserunners) woke up and supported yet another superb showing from Cole.
Rupp starts the bottom of the seventh with a fly ball to right. One away.
Moldenhauer raps his first hit of the game with a single to center. One on, one out. Keyes up.
Tolleson quickly falls behind in the count to Keyes, 3-1. Kevin can't capitalize as he once again strikes out looking. As I said, a caught-looking K should be worth about 10 laps around Disch-Falk. Not only might that curb some of our hitter's passivity, it also might help Kevin work off that boiler.
Kevin Lusson follows with a fly ball to center. It seems Texas' hitters today are either swinging for the fences (and failing) or staring at called strikes. Fortunately, Cole Green has been masterful, hog-tying an otherwise potent Baylor batting lineup.
Through seven, it's Texas 1, Baylor 0. Muncy, Gedwed and Lambert set to hit for the Bears.
Top of the eighth, and Muncy flies to center for out No.1. Evatt in to pinch hit for Gedwed, who got wet and is now headed for the showers (not really).
Evatt doubles an 0-2 pitch to center and makes his coach look like a genius. The tying run is in scoring position with one out. DalPorto pinch running for Evatt. Not a bad cameo for Dan.
Lambert works the count even, 2-2, but ultimately strikes out swinging. Two away with one on second. Ware up.
Cole immediately jumps in front of Ware with two strikes. After a ball, Ware grounds to short. Loy fields and makes the throw to first in time. What a gut check there from Green. Sure wish I had more than GameTracker to observe his performance.
Anyway, Baylor wastes a double and Texas yet clings to its 1-0 lead. On to the bottom of the eighth ...
Interesting to see if Cole comes out for the ninth or if we go to Chance. Have to figure we stay with Green going for his third straight complete game shutout.
Baylor pitcher was 2-5 before tonight with a 4 plus era, the bats have just not taken advantage. This is the third straight game that the offense just seems to be asleep. Would be nice to get a few runs here and make the ninth less dramatic.
The Longhorns look to go meekly in the bottom of the eighth as Rowe and Etier both strike out swinging. That's NINE strikeouts for Tolleson today.
Walla, who is 2-for-3 on the evening, falls behind in the count, 1-2. He then strikes out swinging and is thrown out at first after the catcher loses the ball.
Either Tolleson is having a career day or Texas' hitters left their judgment in Waco. That's TEN Ks for Tolleson through eight innings.
Anyway, I guess it's all up to Green and the Texas D. On to the top of the ninth. Bring us home, Cole ...
