Texas v. Baylor April 22-24, 2022

SWEET WIN! :hookem:

NOW LET'S GET THE SWEEP ON SUNDAY!!:bevo:

Time for some of you to stroll over to DKR! Beer and BBQ before the Spring Game.

Tomorrow we should see something from Baylor we haven’t seen yet—good pitching. Per that stats, their starter tomorrow—Tyler Thomas—is the best in the Big 12. As we’ve seen, their pen really sucks bad. Get a lead or even stay even and get his pitch count up there, and we should be looking good. Plus, I think our bats can hit anyone. He hasn’t faced bats like these.

Now why would we possibly want to bench Faltine???
Give it a rest. I'm glad he has turned it around, but something had to change because he was bad for a stretch there. He is laying off the breaking pitch away now and he is killing it at the plate.

Faltine. 3 for 3 and 2 walks today.
I still don’t understand why we should bench him?!?!?!?!
Nobody with a lick of sense would ever have advocated it. Alas, Hornfans doesn't require posters to pass a lick of sense test before allowing them posting privilege.

Nobody is calling for him to be benched now. But two weeks ago, yes.
Well, here’s how I see it.

Those who were calling for him to be benched two weeks ago were short-sighted then too. His average dipped to around 0.275, even that is respectable enough for a shortstop, and he was generating massive power from the shortstop position (which is not normal). It’s baseball. It happens. Players will slump from time to time. The good ones always bounce back. Trey Faltine has more than proven himself.

Similarly, look at Messinger—he was batting in the 0.100s for the first month or more, and now he’s hitting well North of 0.350–and has been for a couple of months. Same with Nixon and his crummy appearances. He’s still an excellent reliever. We should not have stopped pitching Nixon.

:bevo:

Around the conference, TCU and Okie State have split the first two which is exactly what Texas needed to stay in the Big XII hunt. Tech has taken first two from WVU bringing Mountaineers back to earth. If Horns can win today they could sit just one loss back of first place in the loss column. Today is huge for conference purposes and Horns need to finish job against a not good Baylor tesam but a Baylor that is throwing their best pitcher in a strange strategy move by their coach to at least get one win out of series.

Yeah. Interesting strategy. We can hit this guy—Thomas. They haven’t faced Tech yet, and he hasn’t pitched against the sort of lineup he’ll face today. Plus, Gordon has been real steady and he can keep us in it, or ahead, until we wear Thomas out and Baylor has to go to their lousy pen. Gordon keeps rising to the occasion. Hope Lucas Gordon brings his A game today. If Thomas is dealin, we could even see a pitcher’s duel. At this point in the season, by the ERA numbers, Gordon is our best starter.

I heard on the radio yesterday that the pitcher today is their ace, but coming off an injury. They wanted to give him some extra rest.

Ha! It’s bring your dog to the ballpark day. “Park and Bark” or some such silliness. Good thing we’re not playing Washington or Georgia!

Nice grab by Messinger for the putout. Gordon painted himself into a corner, but worked his way out of it with minimal damage.

0-1 Baylor. To the bottom of the 1st.

Skylar popped up deep to RF.

And they walked Campbell!

:yes::yes::yes:

Daly popped up to shallow RF.
3-1 good guys
On to the 2nd.
Both pitchers have a higher pitch count than they should for this early in the game…
I would think this would inure to our benefit. While we’ve had our bullpen problems, Baylor’s pen absolutely sucks. Move that pigpen to Oklahoma—it sucks.
