Texas-TCU Game Thread

Herman watches every week a 3-3-5 defense that wastes bodies blitzing late from 5-10 yards off the ball to no avail, yet we see it week after week... INSANITY !!!!!!
Now the offense is diseased. CDC needs to check the buyout clause in Tom's contract and act on it now.... Go get Urban before USC does.

Im gonna trust that CDC will make this right in the long run. What else can I do?
You can do what I did today. Go fishing. Caught 8 bass in the time it took for the game. Beautiful day in north Texas. I just decided I'm not enjoying the games even when we win. So I'm not spending any more nice days being pissed at the TV. Rainy or cold day, sure. Nice fall day, nope, not happening.

Reporter: Has anything happened in the last month that’s shaken your faith in Todd Orlando.
TH: No. No.
Reporter: Feel good about the strategy and what’s going on schematically?
TH: No.
Reporter: No you don’t, or no you don’t have a problem?
TH: No I don’t feel good about it, but the two are not related...the two questions, I believe.
What a horse sh*t game. Horns lost to a mediocre team. Herman @ $5MM/year and Orlando @$1.7MM/year were not brought in to lose to TCU. Is losing to Baylor next and acceptable? Sh*t no. Two years ago in this game we had 9 yds rushing. Adapt and overcome. I challenge Herman to be like Chip Kelly when he lost @ Boise State. Basically pay for us that paid to attend the road game and watch a sh*tty performance.

An over all minor point in the overall picture but are we the only team in the USA that NEVER goes under center? I ask because I’ve pretty much seen every team I’ve watched today do it at least once and we never do, never. In fact, during half at Numerous games I switched to La Tech v UTEP and even Kai Locksley (remember him) went under center once. Btw you want to see bad coaching and team misfortune - the Miners rule. Move the ball like crazy then turn it over. One was the center sent the ball wayyyyy over locksleys head and he’s a very tall qb. Move the ball on offense but cannot stop anyone more than twice a game. Poor Miners.

Good for you Wad, for me and wife we get ticked at inexcusable losses but games, and game day in general, are too big to us to give it up. No matter how irritated TH and crew make us. We love the Horns and will keep coming back. Maybe that helps continue mediocrity, I hope not.

After the last 2 weeks, that sounds like a good plan. If I need a college football fix, I can walk down the street to see a game with whoever is playing U of Az.

TH is his own worst enemy. Because he thinks he is smarter than everyone else, he won't listen, and is oblivious to the facts and circumstances staring him in the face which are spelling out his impending doom. He won't make changes until the disaster has happened. Well, right now he has one in the making. We'll see how he handles it.

Kind of reminds you of the mentality of a narcissist.

I think many here thought Texas may be 5-2 going to the TCU game. The way Texas beat KU in the last second and struggles with WVU and Okie Lite, and the loss today is what is inexplicable. Injuries, whatever. There is attitude and coaching problem.

Didn't expect after the Sugar Bow that the Texas Gameday crew would basically be imploring the team and coaching staff to get their collective **** together to save the season and maybe have a shot at the CCG.

Phil, TH has always been thin skinned dating back to at least his Houston days and the infamous and very contentious interview he had with two sportscasters there.
Many coaches arn’t kind to sportscasters who ask questions and then go to their media outlet and blast them. Just know this, most journalist, and those in the sports business especially, are whores and not deserving of respect. After suffering a humiliating loss as a head coach how many of us would have the patience to answer dumba- - questions? Sabin doesn’t have a lot of patience with these a- - hats either and “The Mullet” tries hard to make them look stupid. I think Tom does pretty good. Trust me, you can’t hurt these media guys feelings; they don’t have any.

Chinstrap, he said this to Craig Way on the call in show. You know, the one where the point is to get the fans bought in and fired up about the team?

Wadster I just cant do that. These are my guys no matter how bad they suck. If they are playing, Im there, either in front of the tv (away) or at dkr.

Yea, I was that way most of my life. I started watching in the 60s. I'm older now, days are limited I can do what I love doing which is being in a boat outdoors. My body is pretty broken and I can't play most of the sports I grew up playing but I can at least get in my boat and chill on the lake fishing. It's really about what is best for your mental health. For me I still bleed burnt orange but I'm tired of giving up great days off just to be pissed at the end of the day. I think it's just smart mental health. Everyone has to make their own decisions, but I think when I'm on my death bed I'm not going to be disappointed I missed a few games over 70 years. Now if you can separate your brain and still enjoy the game that's different. Like going to a Ranger game. No one cares if they win, but you can have a good time regardless. I just can't enjoy this team. Game I enjoyed the most was LSU because I felt we played pretty well. Rest of the year even when we win, feel we lost because I knew we played under our talent level. Coaching matters. This team is deficient and I fear it will get worse before it gets better. Hope I'm wrong.

My concern, as I have expressed ad nauseam, is as you stated:

“The fact that Herman thinks he is smarter than everyone...”

Herman is not perfect but he has the skill set to be a great coach. He is now being tested probably unlike at any other time in his career. All we can do is hope that he learns and grows from the current adversity.

Thank you! The LAST thing this program can stand is a head coaching change. Everybody wanted Tom and a year ago everybody was afraid Orlando was going to be lost to a head coaching job. Well they are both here.

That “D” lost a ton of talent to last years graduation and this years injuries. This team is not as good as we thought and expectations were too high. Accept it and hope Tom fixes it. The sun is coming up tomorrow.

I still do not like Beck as an OC.

Earlier this week after the Kansas performance and the off the field issues of the week, I was thinking that the program under Herman was at a crossroads. A win was needed to right the ship. Instead, we got what we got and I think the program has made a hard wrong turn. Unfortunately, there is a real danger of the wheels coming completely off of the season and it looks like 7-5 is the high mark with a little luck, and 5-7 could happen. Yes they have had injuries, but were the replacements recruited to be practice players only instead of potential starters?if so, that is poor evaluation in recruiting. One thing is clear, Herman has hard choices to make, Orlando and the db coach are not cutting it and Beck’s situational play calling is, to say the least, lacking.

Saban has probably earned the right to occasionally be curt (not that I like such behavior). Herman has not. I watch those pressers. Because TH is so defensive, virtually all of the questions he gets are carefully worded softballs. They basically kiss his a** because they know that if they don’t, the delicate Mensa genius will be even more evasive and abrasive.

Good message Wad and I think it reflects my sentiments. My feeling is we’ve reached that point in life where family and personal activities are the most important things in life. When not with the grandkids our mutual (wife and I) pleasure is the Horns. Hate it when they lose, even more when they play poorly but heck, that’s bee

You think 2-3 is the best possible finish?
You think when we have to stick a true freshman in, that when he plays like a freshman, that shows that our recruiting was poor?
Even if Belichick or Saban plays a bunch of 3rd teamers, their brilliant coaching doesn’t make them as good as the starters.
There are definitely some other problems, and Herman is impossibly arrogant, but when we add back in 5 proper starters, lots of plays will work that don’t work now.

You’re absolutely right VY but that won’t help Ingram get 5 instead of 2!yards. I was really disappointed in our offense today. I feel there has to be better scheming available out there. Or maybe talent is being used inappropriately, heck I don’t know. I just think we have the personnel to do better, they just are not being used to their maximum.

That’s true. The offense ought to have enough on the field to play better. Today was the exception, though; they have really scored a lot this year.

At least the team has a week off to identify the weaknesses and work on improvement. After the last couple of games, they are going to be very busy. Hopefully, some of the injured guys that were big contributors early on, will be released to play.

I cant believe we lost to Doogie Howser

Not only did we lose to him, we made him look like Tom Brady!

That kid from Kansas will be telling his grand kids about his game against the Longhorns. Everybody except the Rice QB had a career day against us. We ‘re 1/2 of a football team right now. Pretty good offense (usually), no defense.

Not sure a week is enough to identify all our weaknesses.

I’ve been a fan for 50 plus years. I’ve seen good times and I’ve seen bad. I still either show up or tune in every time I can.

In the bad times, there are always fans who say they aren’t watching any more. I get it. But not sure why they come right back to HornFans to complain about what they didn’t watch?

I've been a serious fan of the Horns since I was 9 years old - over 55 years. Never waivered or quit during the valleys but, pissed off many many times.

I'm not going anywhere - Horns will always be my team!

When I was a student we went 4-8 one year and 5-6 after that. I went to games then and I’ll watch or go now. I think the awful secondary play this year has bled to the offense and mutiny in the locker room. The team is not playing for Tom Herman right now. But he can win them back. We saw good secondary play his first two years but all the players who made those plays are gone. Sean Elliott, Holton Hill, Locke, Hager, I know I’m forgetting some names from last yr. The new players are not getting it done and now the offense is regressing these last three weeks because they are just sick and tired. It demotivates the team big time to give up a dozen 3rd and very Longs for a first down or TD. It happens every game. Now we see the OLine regressing, WR’s fighting with coaches.
Owens was step for step with his receiver yesterday but he looked over his inside shoulder for the ball instead of outside. Cost us 52 yds and 1st and goal. Elliott would have intercepted that pass. PJ Locke too. Owens will be a star but he is a freshman. It takes a year of playing time to get comfortable. The secondary is a mess and the rest of the team cannot carry them anymore. They are not playing as a team. TH must figure it out. I would change defensive schemes. Once TCU started throwing downfield against our freshman secondary the game was over. Please switch to a 4-3-4 or a 4-2-5 look. 3 down lineman puts too much pressure on the secondary! We aren’t getting pressure.
