Texas-TCU Game Thread

Yup, we gave up a 3rd and 11 and a 3rd and 14 on that last drive. Orlando blitzed everybody on the 3rd and 14, just as he did on 3rd and 17 against LSU, the result was the same both times. Of course, with the personnel we had in there, there's no reason to believe that dropping 8 and rushing 3 would have yielded a different result.

Montrell Estrelle (sp.?) needs to take a seat on the bench and not see the field the rest of the season, unless we're up by 40. His game made Sam's look not so bad.

#44 - Frosh DB Tyler Owens got a DB baptism by fire on Sat.

Everyone making excuses for Owens knows that TCU had a freshman QB who was sometimes throwing to freshmen WRs. Owens isn't the issue... it's how we use him and the scheming like Clean said. We shouldn't be doing these 15-yard deep blitzes on 3rd down and long.

If anything, Estell is the safety who's getting burned when he's forced to man cover.

To add insult to injury, it was a 3rd and 17 once again in the 2nd quarter that Texas gave up a TD for 24 yards that time. 3rd and 17, again and gave up a TD.

We shouldn't be doing these 15-yard deep blitzes on 3rd down and long.

Our blitzes were so obvious that the TCU cheerleaders were calling them out. Maybe we should try showing those blitzes and then pulling out of them or how about our DL tried a stunt or two instead of trying to bull rush every time?

On the last Texas drive, TCU rushed 3 and dropped 8 dbs back into coverage. CJ and DuVernay were double covered every play.

Sorry, but 4 interception, at least two giving the frogs quick easy scores, cant be overlooked.
Didn't overlook the ints: vvv.
And an edit: It is not a given that interceptions lead to quick easy scores. A decent defense will stop the other team occasionally. We could not stop their true freshman and it eventually cost us the game when we couldn't get the ball back at the end.

Also, no one can deny that the interceptions were torpedoes to our cause.

The D shouldn't have had to make that last stop. They were worn down, I'm sure.

Being worn down is not a valid excuse when you rush only three linemen(arguably the most worn down men on the defense, since they are in a fistfight every single play); you must put a little pressure on the true freshmen QB. I'm not calling for the all out blitz, but at least a four man rush, or four linemen with a well designed 5th rusher blitzing.

The blame isn't all Sam's, it lies with the defense and primarily Orlando.

Don't forget softball. We have a winner coaching them as well.[/
He is being coached to stay in the pocket and throw.
if the staff wanted to go with a pure pocket passer, we had a good one that’s tearing it up at SMU. I thought the whole reason the staff liked Sam over Shane was because Sam was a multi purpose / dual threat QB that could, and would, run for a lot of first downs.

Yea, it is.
So is the defense.
But you can't exonerate Sam.
You're making it awful hard on an injury riddled and young defense when you give the ball back to the other side four times.
Two of which were in the red zone.
It was an all around ugly performance.
This team has been over-reliant on Sam to constantly bail us out and grasp victory from the jaws of defeat. Sam has a bad game, we lose. What did everyone expect.
