Texas @ OU 02/28/2024

No words
But we better figure out how to close out games or we will be going home early from both tournaments.

See you at 5am for team practice. Shake it off and let's recover and respond.

The worst thing about the women’s game is how inconsistently games are called. 45 fouls called. Three players benched. And then that travel called as opposed to what you would think should be a foul on OU.

Credit OU. They out rebounded us by 16 and got 22 points in the paint. You simply cannot give an inside game to a team that can shoot the three.

OU should be ranked way higher.

Even with all that didn't go our way.. and there was a lot that didn't... we still had so many chances to secure the win. The last several minutes we failed to secure loose balls and rebounds that were right in our hands on several possessions. Hats off to OU they swept us, they're the champions. The end.
Ummmm, I'm not ready just yet to be congratulatory!

Ok, coaches ...what do you think about the offensive foul calls? Except when there is an obvious hack, I usually can't tell who fouls.
As a coach your team should never be in a position where a ref can decide the game. That’s on you. But I don’t know how you deal with refs who anticipate fouls so often that your momentum
can be sucked away. Both teams played much cleaner games than what was called tonight. We still might have lost, but the refs interfered way too much tonight.

Completely agree. We couldn’t rebound when we desperately needed to.

Ludicrous statement. They played their guts out in a hostile environment and handcuffed by poor officiating. I guarantee there won’t be a 5am practice unless the players call one.

Like many teams of the past, we are far too predictable too. When Madi doesn’t have the ball, we look lost too often. When it can get inside to a post it’s fine. But our guard play seems to be really lacking. Seemed like every time we tried to do our dribble drive they knew exactly what to do.

***there was a moment after some UT free throws where there was an audible alarm for sub from the scoring table but play continued. I swear it was AFTER the horn though but maybe I’m wrong. The end of the subsequent play, Moore fouls out.***
It does nothing to keep trying to find the one thing that would’ve changed this around. But, it just effing stings.

Lots of frustrating moments, and stats.

In this day and age, you aren't gonna win a game when you hit only two 3-pointers and your opponent drains 10 of them; that right there is a 16 point differential.

You combine that with getting outrebounded 44-28, including 20-5 on the offensive glass and you have a recipe for disaster.

Gonzales and Holle were hitting their shots early in the first quarter; not sure if either scored after that first quarter. They just can't create their own shot for the most part (outside of the weave / dribble drive offense), and we couldn't run many if any screens to get them free.

Too bad Vic didn't play Faye even if it was just for defensive rebounding purposes; that could have made the difference in securing the win tonight and a share of the conference championship.

He did play Faye and it was not good. She hasn’t seen a game in a month, so that’s to be expected.

OU only got 13 second chance points off those 21 offensive rebounds so Texas did something right defensively

I am bad at math tonight. That's a 24-point differential in 3-point scoring.

It's probably too late this season to do anything about Texas' offense, but I've watched enough basketball this year to agree that Vic really needs to come along on the 3 point journey or get left behind in the coming years.

I have been generally annoyed over the past few seasons by the trend of going up for a rebound with one hand and tipping the ball. It got on my nerves when Texas kept doing it last game and tonight it reared its ugly head again with DeYona knocking the ball out of an easy Taylor rebound (Taylor had both hands up and ready).

I believe Texas was up by three points when Madison was called for travel. Madison lost possession of the ball and bobbled it on the right side. The closest referee did not call travel, but the lead referee 30 feet away could not have seen through her body to see she did not have possession. It was a terrible call.

Had that not been called, the outcome probably would have been different.

They players played their guts out. When you play a 3 point shooting team, there's going to be long rebounds for the OR.

Win against BYU, and I pray we meet Oklahoma in the Big 12 Tournament Championship.

Yep... horrible call! Of course, there will be long rebounds on long missed shots. But we failed epically with our defensive rebounding right under the basket on numerous occasions all night, including several times during the last few minutes of the game.

So, what was Vic so upset about with under 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter? Moore came down with a defensive rebound, and it appeared as if Van tied her up and they called a tie-up with a possession staying with OU. Then there was a foul on Booker and Tott was shooting free throws. When the cameras showed Vic at the scorer's table protesting something, I saw that the Possession arrow was showing in favor of OU; that confused me as the tie-up had just occurred. There were no more changes of possession to end the third quarter. To start the 4th quarter, OU inbounded the ball. Did we get robbed of a possession?

The play-by-play stats show what I thought was a tie-up as a turnover by Moore and a steal by Vann; I don't recall seeing a travelling call on Moore. So, now I'm unsure what happened there.

We also went 20 for 28 from the free throw line. Not horrible but certainly not anything to be proud of, especially in a one point loss.

It drives me crazy that Vic won’t even halfway embrace the three. I don’t care how much you want to go inside or hit midrange, taking 6 three pointers in a game in 2024 is just ridiculous. How huge was the momentum swing when OU hit a multuple threes on each of their runs? He doesn’t have to have them take 30 a game, but 10-12 should be a regular occurrence.
