Wood out for the bottom of the 16th. He's thrown 110 pitches, 81 of which for strikes.
Sudol to lead off. First pitch low and away for ball one. Next pitch is inside for ball two. Sudol fouls one back, then sends a chopper to second. Tucker makes the grab and tosses to Clark for out No.1.
Melchionda hits a slow grounder to short. Loy guns him down with an inch to spare. Two away.
Anston with a comebacker to Wood, who snags the ball and flips to first. Inning over.
I can't say enough about Wood other than this: most amazing relief performance by a Horn pitcher I've ever seen.
if the horns are fortunate enough to make it to the 17th, i'm calling a run for UT. top of the lineup, we made some noise last time at the top. let's just hope we get another chance!!!! some on Wood!
Woody gets the first one on a groundout. Next ball is groundout to Loy. That is officially 9.1 innings of no hits and 2 walks by Wood. Amazing that we cannot score one paltry run for him.
Moreland just referenced Harvey Haddix. When I think of rubber arm pitchers, I always think of that Houston Cougar, he pitched something like three days in a row in the Central regional.(6 team regional back them )
Top of the order up for Texas in the top of the 17th. Belfiore still in. I'm calling it now: his luck--and by extension, Boston College's--has run out.
Tucker starts the inning off with a routine grounder to second. One away. Belt up.
Delayed called strike evens the count on Belt at 1-1. Brandon follows with a lazy grounder to first. Two out. Torrid Torres up.
Another grounder, this one to short. Texas goes 1-2-3 about as meekly as you'll ever see a team go.
Hamlet works the count full and takes ball four outside. Leadoff man on for B.C.
Predictably, Sanchez shows bunt. Runner goes, Sanchez swings away and fouls off. Sanchez lays a bunt down the third-base line. Torres fields it and fires to second to snipe the lead runner. One down, man on first, Wiswall up.
Wiswall falls behind, 0-2, and sends a bat flying. Next pitch catches Wiswall looking and it's two down, one on, Belfiore up.
Belfiore immediately down, 0-2. Next pitch misses low and away for ball one. After a foul, 1-2 pitch misses low to even the count at 2-2. Belfiore belts one to left, but Hernandez makes a sliding, snowcone catch ON HIS *** to end the inning.
Coker was amazing, and I want to say he batted also. I do remember being tired just sitting there in the stands watching all of those games. For those of you who don't remember the 6 team regional was an awesome feat of endurance.
I loved it, I think the first two days started with three games in the day, then it cut back to two games a day on the third day.
The real fun part was when one team could come out of the losers bracket and get to play the same day.
