Texas-Boston College Game Thread

Top of the order up for Texas.

Tucker digs in against Moran. First pitch is high for ball one. Next pitch is a strike at the knees. Tucker fouls off the 1-1 pitch. Tucker lifts the 1-2 pitch to right. It's not well hit, though, and the right fielder is able to run under it for out No.1.

Conference on the mound. Moran out for Belfiore, who started the game as DH but is also the Eagles' top closer. He's 5-1 on the year with nine saves and 2.56 ERA.

Belt up. One out. C'mon, Brandon, let's get something started.

First pitch misses inside for ball one. Next pitch is outside for ball two. Third pitch looks alot like the second but is called for a strike. Belt watches another and the count is even, 2-2. Big swing and miss on the followup offering. Two down, Torrid Torres up.

Torres knocks the ump's mask off with a foul tip. Next pitch is low for a ball. Count is 1-1. Torres then grounds to second, who charges, scoops the ball and makes the throw in time for out No.3.

It's 1-2-3 for our 'Horns in the top of the ninth. Eeesh.

To the bottom of the ninth and the score still deadlocked at 2 apiece ...

We had 7 hits with no outs in the fourth, and we have added two since then.

where the heck has the offense disappeared to. 3 runs last night only 2 tonight. Cant put this much pressure on the pitching and hope to make a lot of noise in the tourney.

Now we sweat out a bottom of the ninth and hope to get to extra innings.

Wood will start the ninth. Wonder what his pitch count is. My guess is over 40.

Meat of the order up to face Woody. Moreland just said he's at 35 pitches so far tonight.

Wiswall takes a strike at the knees. Wood follows with a ball low. Next pitch is pulled foul. Wiswall chases one down and away and whiffs for out No.1.

Belfiore knocks Wood's initial offering back to the mound. Wood fields it cleanly and tosses to first. Two gone.

Butera fouls off the first pitch. Next toss paints the outside corner for strike No.2. Oh-2 pitch just misses outside, and so does the 1-2 pitch. Butera fouls back the 2-2 offering to stay alive, but it's all for naught cuz he's frozen on the next pitch for a called strike three.

Great 2.2 innings from Wood. My guess is he's done. We'll see. First, let's get him some freakin' runs, 'Horns!!!

To extra innings we a-go ...

Rupp leads off the top of the 10th, running the count to 2-2 before striking out.

Belfiore blows one by Loy for strike one. Next pitch is high. Loy then pops up to short and it's two away. Clark up.

Clark with a slow roller between the mound and third, but the third baseman barehands it and throws Clark out at first. Man, Clark must not have ANY wheels. That play took forever.

Texas bats still silent as we're headed to the bottom of the 10th ...

Wow. Wood is apparently going to start the 10th despite having thrown 46 pitches already today.

Wood starts Lawrence off with back-to-back strikes. Lawrence tries to check his swing on the 0-2 pitch but goes around and is called out.

Sudol chops the first pitch right back to Wood, who snares it and keeps a would-be single from the outfield. Woody throws high to first, but Clark once again goes up and makes the play for out No.2.

Wood needs just four pitches to sit down Melchionda. That ends the 10th with the score still 2-2.

This is the best I've seen Wood all season.

To the 11th ...

Kyle Lusson, who came on in the eighth as a pinch runner for Kevin Keyes, to bat for the first time of the day in the top of the 11th.

Kyle pops a 2-2 pitch into foul territory. First baseman makes the catch for out No.2. Moreland says that's nine consecutive outs for the 'Horns. Awful.

Rowe skies an 0-1 pitch that hangs and is caught in left field for out No.2. Ten consecutive outs for Texas.

Hernandez (now 0-5 on the day) strikes out on four pitches. Eleven consecutive outs for UT.

Top of the order up for the Eagles as we head to the bottom of the 11th ...

Wood still on the mound to face the top of the Eagles' order. He's thrown 54 pitches so far tonight, which HAS to be a season high.

Anston sends a first-pitch grounder to Tucker, who vacuums the ball and throws off balance to Clark for out No.1. Terrific play from Travis.

Hamlin quickly falls behind, 1-2, as Wood shows no sign of letting up. Next pitch misses low and away. Hamlin lines the 2-2 pitch right to Lusson, who makes the catch. Two down.

Sanchez stares at a ball well outside, then takes a huge cut and fouls it back. He waves at the next pitch to fall behind, 1-2. Wood misses low and outside for ball two. Sanchez drills the next pitch to Wood with so much force that it knocks the glove from Woody's hand. Austin tracks down the ball, picks it up and fires to first for out No.3.

Man, our offense might be AWOL, but we're seeing some amazing defensive plays from both teams today.

To the 12th ...

Let Austin hit! The way he's been nails tonight, he's liable to hit a homer and then finish it up with a 1-2-3 innning.

4 2/3 scoreless from Wood tonight added to the 2 scoreless yesterday, he has found his groove.

Now can the frickin bats wake the bleep up.

Both ballclubs have retired 11 consecutive batters. Tucker to lead off the inning against Belfiore, who's been perfect so far.

Tucker works the count full on six pitches, then stares at strike three.

Belt (0-for-3 on the evening) quickly falls behind, 1-2. After fouling off twice, he skies one to left that the shortstop runs under for out No.2.

Torrid Torres (1-for-5 tonight) in the box. He works the count full but then chases ball four for another K. That's, what, 14 consecutive outs for UT now? *sigh*

To the bottom of the 12th ...

one of these pitchers is going to make a 1 pitch mistake. that is my prediction. both pitching outstanding. but something has to give soon.
