Texas-Army Game Thread, Part Deux

I still say it ain't over. Army has been in trouble every inning, but we keep letting them off the hook. Perhaps we can finally capitalize on our many, many opportunities and pull this one out.

Down to our last six outs ...

Hard not to argue with Augie's strategy tonight. He is the best in the game, but tonight his stubbornness got the better of him and there is no question it stifled the opportunities for big innings. When you play for one run you better have stellar pitching and we have used up the pitchers you can count on to hold the opposition to 1-2 runs yesterday and Friday. The problem is that tomorrow bringing back Green on 2 days rest is touchy and if we again play for one run innings and you can bet the house we will, put ourselves in an extremely precarious position against a four seed that we should be drumming. No Ruffin and no Wood and no Dicharry means we have to play for big innings not the small ball crap and someone as great as Augie should know that so what the bleeding hell is he trying to prove.

Lets hope tomorrow is a better hitting day or this very promising staff could be done in 24 hours.

Army is playing better baseball tonight that is why they are winning, they lost very games last half of the year.

Torres to lead off for UT versus Matt Fouch, who started against us Friday evening. Ball one. Ball two. Next pitch is taken for a strike. Torres takes again for strike No.2. He watches again and this time the pitch misses outside to work the count full. Torres balloons the payoff pitch to center for out No.1. Very passive at-bat for Michael. Belt up.

Despite being one of the few bright spots in the Texas lineup, Belt grounds weakly to short and is out at first. Two gone, Clark up.

Clark falls into an 0-2 hole, then takes a pair of balls to even the count before striking out. Texas goes 1-2-3 when it needed at least that many runs. Now, that's how many outs we're down to or we're playing Monday.

To the 9th ...

Every pitcher on our staff is going to be available tomorrow, even Wood. No tomorrow if you do not win.

Anemic at bats that inning. Sounds like they want to go home.

Wonder if the discussion at 1st base that was just conducted by the whole team including asking WTF Augie was doing with all the bunts.

Stayton Thomas remains on the mound for Texas in the top of the ninth. He'll be facing the bottom of Army's order.

Strikeout King Polchinski, he of the Golden Sombrero, grounds to Tucker for an easy out. One gone.

Thomas falls behind in the count to Fleming, 3-1, and walks him with the next pitch. Ugh. Has Army gone 1-2-3 this game? Maybe in the second?

Grounder to Loy that is turned for a double play despite a bobble by Belt. Texas trails, 10-6, with three outs to make it right.

To the bottom of the 9th ...

Lets finish this inning strong and try to get some momentum for tomorrow.

I am thinking back to 1992 when the Horns blew a game one championship to a 6 seed VCU in the ninth and then came back to win the regional (this in the old 6 team regional format) in the second championship game in a rout.

Tip your caps to Army. They got the timely hits and a couple of incredible plays in the field. We better come ready to play tomorrow, or we'll make them look like this year's Fresno State.

Keith saying Dichary could start with Cole Green and Ruffin to follow tomorrow. Thomas induces a groungd ball DP. We only need 4!

it doens't matter one bit who pitches for us tomorrow. What matters is that Augie sees the wriitng on the wall and tells everybody no bunts today! Everybody hits.
