Stanford Super Stupid Regional

Never really seemed like the Horns night. The bats have to show up Monday night. If Texas can get to the 8th with a lead Morehouse has a day of rest and may be good for two innings.

Morehouse threw less than 20 pitches Saturday, he should be able to go as long as he is effective. Best case scenario is Witt and Morehouse are all that’s needed for tonight cause we are running out of options but I suspect Stanford is too.

I don’t know if it was bad for the pitcher or not, he threw a ton of change ups last night which aren’t any more taxing on his arm than throwing BP. Time will tell.

What do we average, 6.5 RBIs per game? Feels like batting was closer to the goal than pitching last night.

Stanford has given up 10 runs in a game (11 times) as many times as they’ve given up 3 or fewer runs. Matthews had 13 starts giving up no more than 3. He played a large role in the last 3 games of those 11.

We’ve given up 10 runs 5 times. We given 0-3 runs 25+ times.

I was curious how their depth shook out relative to ours. Our bullpen blow ups have been fewer than theirs.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nick Dugan get some good run today. Numbers aren’t great, but his last 4 outings have been very solid. They don’t have anyone that has consistently gone deep in games. They will piece it together much as we will.

Witt-Morehouse have the most upside of either team. If Witt can give 3 or maybe 4 clean innings, we will be in good shape. If that happens, we might go to Morehouse right there.

On Saturday:

Zane Morehouse threw 16 pitches.
Ace Whitehead threw 15 pitches.
Charlie Hurley threw 23 pitches.

Each of them could go 4-5 (or more) innings tonight, if required.

I’m hoping Witt can put it together, he is key tonight. I’m not worried about the offense or defense. Campbell has gone hitless in the last two games but I expected a dip after going 38 straight, he’s still been getting on base. Everyone in the lineup has contributed but Flores and GG but GG isn’t going to remain silent long either so I expect a pretty decent offensive performance tonight, my feeling is the offense is going to have a chip on their shoulder.

Regarding Qwinn, I m surprised we did't take some measures to changes or slow his ryhthem. He doesnt waste any time once he get the ball in his hand.

330 + pitches in 10 days is a little much even if some are changes!

Texas faced one of the best pitchers in the nation last night and hung in there. On top of that he's a lefty and Texas has 5 lefties in the line-up. And I don't know of any of the lefties to pull and replace with DuPlantier. The stars had to align perfectly for Texas to win.

If I were Stanford I would throw Dowd tonight, followed by the next best lefty. If Witt can have a good 4-5 innings Texas has a chance.

Bruno has only thrown 0.1 innings this series.

Bruno
5.18 ERA
1.64 WHIP
He's only thrown 33 innings all year, so he's usually a low-innings sort of reliever.

The remaining LHPs are Schwartz, Lopez, and Dowd.

Dowd
4.57 ERA
1.41 WHIP
61 innings pitched this year

Lopez
7.04 ERA
1.76 WHIP
15.1 innings pitched this year

Schwartz
0.00 ERA
3.00 WHIP
has pitched 0.1 innings all year. If we face him, that would be good.

On the mound for Stanford tonight...

It will probably be: Dowd, Bruno, and Scott.

Dixon threw 61 pitches on Saturday, so he may be good for a few innings; they may need him.

Dowd threw 53 pitches on Saturday, so he's probably only got 3 good innings in him for tonight.

Bruno and Scott haven't thrown much this series, but when they did, they didn't throw well.

Meant Dowd, the other lefty that was pretty good. Too many names to try to remember.

I knew Burke entered the portal, but does that mean he couldn't finish this season? Could he have waited until after the season to enter the portal?
I know little of the circumstances surrounding the situation. I’m not certain it was Burkes choice or whether he was forced into the Portal. In theory, I’d say yes he could still play, but the impression I get is that is not an option for his situation.

The Witt as starter experiment should be over. His ERA is huge
Pitch Hurley/Morehouse/Whitehead/(Witt for an inning or with a pitbull leash)

The planets have aligned and Witt will pitch the game of his life tonight to get the Horns
Back to The University of Texas at Omaha!!

I'm hopeful he can figure it out, but an offensive team like Stanford is not likely to be the right team to do this. Witt has pitched all of 9.2 innings giving up 10 earned runs for a 9.31 ERA. If he does end up being the guy tonight he's going to have a very short leash or it's going to be a long night.

As others on here have expressed while I am excited for Witt to return my confidence in him is not high. Regardless of whom we pitch the sticks have to come alive tonight for the Horns to win. I do not anticipate less than 5 runs to win it imho.

Witt is a bulldog and has UT flowing through his veins, make no mistake, he knows what's at stake. lets see how this plays out. :bevo::hookem2:

We will score runs tonight. The question is will we score more than they will. I think and hope so. Quinn was incredible last night. His change up was the best I’ve seen and came out of the same arm slot as his fastball. He was hitting spots with it and dropping off a plate. He had great placement of his fastball and breaking pitch also.
I would not rule out if we in a 1 or 2 run game going into the 9th we wouldnt see him for 1 inning especially based on what we saw out of their “closer” Saturday. And speaking of Saturday we completely stole that game so time to make them pay for that tonight . I think we get it done.
