SJS vs Texas

Longhorns up 2-0 after 1 with a GG no doubter homerun and Thomas doing a great imitation of a great lead off batter. lol, GG knew it was gone the second he hit it and looked at the dugout while casually walking and putting his bat down.

Flores still spelling Daly at SS. Daly has whiffed his way right out of a starting position. However, Flores needs to find a way to do more than Daly at the plate or Pierce may end up having to do something else, we can't be that inept in the 9 hole. (as i typed this, Flores struck out swinging)

Currently, bases loaded with 2 outs (Thomas walked) and why its so detrimental when you get no production from the 9 hole cause we only have one opportunity to get a score now.

And Powel hits an easy ground ball to the 2nd baseman for an easy out, left them loaded.

to the third.

Wow, Porter Brown fields a ground ball in LF and throws out a runner that tried to get home from 2nd, throw was right to the plate just in time to get the runner to end the inning. Every kid that plays outfield needs to watch that play, alot of kids even on the college level cant seem to make an accurate throw from the outfield.

Geez, Thomas is having a heck of a run only outdone by Campbell, currently 3-3, an RBI double bringing home O'Dowd. 3-0 Texas with 2 outs.

Powel ends the inning again with a ground ball up the middle but infield positioned for it and throws him out.

Gordon has thrown 74 pitches thus far and did receive a visit from Woody as he struggled a little bit in this inning.

*note - Morehouse was warming up in the pen.

I’ll just continue to be stubborn about it. Daly is the guy.

9 hole hitters are not good. You can use Chops favorite team as an example. The Wake SS is hitting .230 with 7 XBHs. My guess is far fewer deepish fly outs too. Incidentally his fielding % is lower than Dalys too.

Bolton for Arkansas. Repping a .196 average. About 1 XBH for every 37 ABs. Lower fielding % than Daly. The other dude playing SS has a .257 average but OBP is lower than Dalys.

2 top 10 teams not getting as much as production or equal production to our SS.

PB strikes out. and this is where we become vulnerable, the game is still not in control and we are moving to our pen. Morehouse to the mound

Earlier in the season I would have completely agreed with you but off the top of my head, in the last few weeks? maybe longer, Daly has contributed about one more productive at bat than a dead man. He's struggling and its really bad and for whatever reason he couldn't lay a sac bunt down either, that's pretty pathetic. Flores looks to be as equal as Daly defensively and may have a better arm. Daly has also made a couple of errors recently. If Flores can even sac bunt, Daly may not get many more opportunities.

I did mention pre-season that Daly may get beat out if his offense doesn't improve. I never thought it would be this bad though or that his replacement would also struggle this bad.

and right on cue, we scored on a Flores sac fly while I was typing the previous post.....i rest my case for the time being on the battle between Flores and Daly.
Texas up 4-2 now as Thomas finally decides not to make the veterans look too bad by flying out at the warning track for his first out of the game.

and the lead off hits a low line drive to CF and the play can't be made but gets thrown out trying to steal 2nd.

And Thomas makes a dive to his right to stop a hard hit ball from going through and throws out the runner as Morehouse covers 1st.

and with only 3 pitches, Morehouse gets the next hitter to hit a weak ground ball to 2nd, 4-3 for the put out. to the bottom of the 7th. Morehouse looked pretty good working ahead on each batter that inning.

It was several weeks ago now, but Daly was the best hitter on the team in games versus OU and Texas State. He had a big hit versus KU.

Daly had 3 warning track flies versus KU. Wind blowing in. He struck out his last AB on a non-strike. He has 2 RBIs in his last two games.

Flores is 0-5 with 4 Ks this week. A sac fly and a walk. In todays game, he’s had 5 runners on base. He’s advanced exactly 1, 1 base.

Flores should get ABs but so should Daly.

Morehouse back out to the mound for his 3rd inning of work. Walks the first batter, flies out to RF on the 2nd batter. 1 on 1 out.

and crap, a wild pitch puts another runner on. 2 on 1 out.

I imagine we will see Daly again but he also needs to control his errors, its not just his offense. 2 errors against Kansas and something I never expected from him at all.

Morehouse getting hit a little, 2 outs right now but after a double the Spartans score one and should have scored another after O'Dowd bobbled the cut off. As it is, the score is 4-3 Texas with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Duplantier in to pitch to protect the lead.
