Or maybe put J. DuPlantier at SS more often. His errors in Arlington must have sunk him in the mind of the coaching staff. But that was a long time ago.

I thought Witt looked good for the first two innings. The home run ball he gave up barely made it over the right field wall-I think it hit the top of the wall. DC gave it all he had and I thought (hoped) he might be able to snag it. Speaking of DC, he homered his first at bat, thereby extending the streak. He hasn't even been letting the drama build--gets his hits in the first couple of bats.

I just finished Game 3 on tape delay.

18-6 run rule Victory (7 innings)

Witt looked pretty good. He's getting back into his rhythm. Gave up a long ball, but otherwise he looked pretty good. He'll likely give us 2-3 innings vs WV, in the conference tournament, and in the Regional. Each outing he looks better and better.

Sthele can't load the bases and walk in runs...
One really bad inning like that can blow the entire game.
(you'd think we wouldn't be doing that at this point of the season)
:soapbox:

The bats were fantastic.

Campbell extended his hitting streak to 30 games!

Powell was still on fire, as was Kennedy, Carlson, Thomas, Campbell, O'Dowd, and others.

San Jose is sloppy in the field. They're a terrible fielding team.

The really big guy they had on the mound for a few innings may have been the worst pitcher we've faced all year.

Another victory by the Longhorn batting lineup.

Witt is getting better.

The ultimate question is what is his role. If he can’t go deep in a game, he’s better in the pen assuming he can give you multiple games on a weekend.

My blood pressure goes up every time Sthele takes the mound. Going forward Texas won't be facing opposing pitchers with ERA's 8+ anymore. Hopefully Tanner can throw 70 pitches next weekend.

There are variables but entering this weekend SJSUs staff ERA was better than Stanford and Boston College to name two potential postseason opponents.

There’s only 1 dominant staff in the country. There are only a handful of good ones. It’ll be quite common that CWS teams only have 1 starter with a sub-4.0 ERA.

If your 3rd and probably your 2nd starters get you 5 or more innings with 3 or fewer runs, that’s a win.

Some folks on the internet are saying we're most likely the #2 seed in the Arkansas region. They will not be happy to see us.

Just keep us far away from Wake Forest in any bracket and we've got a fighting chance. Even with WF, we could conceivably challenge them for 2 games. The problem with them is that they've got 3 stud starting pitchers. We have 2--which is 1 more than most teams that will make the Regionals.

Pierce said he was wanting to increase Witts pitch count by 15 each outing so he should be ready by the playoffs barring he’s remained effective for that predetermined count and reaches it going forward.

Nice to see Witt getting longer action and with three weeks to the regionals to continue his strengthening he could be a wildcard for the Horns in an elimination game scenario. Horns will head into next week needing to win two to ensure they are seeded fourth or higher in the Big XII tourney and with an outside shot still to win the conference with a sweep and some help.
