San Diego

Grubbs—Pierce was right to bring him along and develop him. His numbers were subpar last year, but he’s got talent. We should see him frequently this year.

Wheels have fell off for SD now. Texas up 9-3 in the 8th, Grubbs has been pulled after being hit by a line drive up the middle.Fontenont on to pitch.

Cold windy day prevented the sweep. Even then, Texas could have won yesterday in the bottom of the 9th and 10th.

Team needs more playing time and warmer weather to work out the kinks.

Yeah. Maybe we should have Spring training in Florida.

We're about where we should be after the 1st series. We won the series and came within an inch of sweeping them.

Hitting looks pretty good, and will get better and better. We will score a lot or runs.

Fielding stinks for now, but will improve.

LBJ is LBJ. Howard looks pretty decent, as does Hurley. Witt struggled. Our pen looks pretty good, especially Fontenot, Boehm, Grubbs, and Shaw. Others will step up too, and some have last year (Ace W., Lummus--best WHIP in the pen last year, I think).

Blaming the weather??? Am I on Hornfans or TexAgs?
I have followed Texas baseball since late 80’s. Cold windy days early in the season is not a good combo for Texas. Would be interesting to see a plot of scoring margin vs game temperature. I bet it’s linear.

Good batting overall today.

Gasparino
Powell
Gumbo
Brown
and others.

Happy to see Gumbo in the lineup, that was a smart move, kid can ball at the plate and deserves more at bats. Someone has to produce besides just the top 2-3, Schuessler and Gasparino. Looking at you O’Dowd, Brown, and Belyeu :e-eyes:

did yall see that throw from RF by Belyeu?? Mmhhmm….that kind of arm can save a run or two a game. He didn’t get the guy at the plate but it scared the bejeebies out of the third base coach when it shouldn’t have been close at all and SD was holding up runners all weekend because of that arm. May be the only reason Max is still playing (0-7 AB).

I would put this weekend under the heading of mixed results and a learning experience. The infield showed struggles that we haven't seen in several years and some untimely errors and a lack of timely hitting on Saturday led to a loss to a team that will challenge to be in the tournament come May/June. Texas is going to go through some growing pains early in the year and there will be some frustrating games. As always you hope to see growth and a team coming together and playing its best ball in May not February. Witt lasting only a little over an inning is an early deep concern and the high number of free base runners surrendered this weekend by the staff as a whole is a big red flag. The Horns need to use these first few weeks to shake out a weekend rotation and get some flow in the offense and if they do that, things will be just fine. This isn't a super team, they will lose some frustrating games but they are capable and while I don't see them as a national seed and frankly see them on the bubble to be a regional seed that doesn't mean they can't find the right combination to make a run at Omaha.:hookem:
