San Diego

Gasparino's out.

Thomas up.

Wild pitch - Schuesler to 2nd.

Deep fly by Thomas. Schuesler tags to 3rd.

2 away, man on 3rd.

IF single. O'Dowd stopped the ball but didn't have a chance to make the out. 2 on 1 out for the Toros.

LBJ - wasn't his best night, still not bad though.
Grubbs - he gets the 'W'; a pretty good inning in relief; he could be the most improved player on the team
Fontenot - a good inning in relief--this guy will be a solid workhorse for us
Boehm - as good as advertised.
Shaw - his control was a bit spotty tonight, but he's still Shaw

We gave up a total of 3 runs. Not too shabby.

Wow, this batting lineup.

It's explosive. We're going to score a lot of runs this year!

Yeah I was wondering when they would show up.

Was at the game tonight and one big observation, the wind blowing in from left field killed some well hit balls but Flores’ jack was so hard hit that even that strong wind couldn’t keep it in the ballpark. LBJ is going to be both really fun to watch and really frustrating all at the same time. He can throw a ball through a brick wall but struggles far too often finding the plate. Going to be a fun season. :bevo:

Just got back to the hotel, my thoughts….

Thomas never ceases to amaze me. Kid is going to probably bat above .375 maybe even .400 this year. One of the best lead off batters in college.

Gasparino - the boy has wheels for such a long legged kid and he can lay down a bunt.

Flores- he sorely needed to have a night like that offensively. Hopefully that’s all he needs to be consistent this year.

Belyeu - defensively, WOW!! There were two opportunities for san dog to get a runner to third when Max fielded a ball and both times the third base coach didn’t even try it even when I thought he should have. Apparently the scouting report on Max’s arm is very positive. I gotta say, I was hoping coach would test his arm, both times Max threw the ball in, I heard a little sonic boom, ball was scooting, looked like he would have thrown either attempt out. Amazing arm!! Offensively though, very disappointing.

Nik Sanders produced, I was expecting him to try to muscle it out of the park but he actually purposely hit a ball to the right side for a base hit, tells me a lot about a kid that will take what he’s given. Signs of maturity for a youngun.

pitching- disappointed that our pitch counts seem high still. LBJ is too good to be throwing so many pitches and having to exit early. Grubbs, Fontenot and Boehm looked pretty good. Shaw really struggled, not sure I like him in a closing role and I do realize this was the first game. I would rather see him in a middle reliever role.

Defense- O’Dowd threw one away I thought he should have made, possibly two. He was playing tight on second both times and he had to hustle to get two ground balls. Flores made an errant throw and Powell bobbled a grounder. Subpar night in my opinion from this infield but I’m not worried, I know these guys can get it done and 3-4 were tough plays.
