The endings for both "Philadelphia" and "Million Dollar Baby" were tough to watch. Another Hillary Swank character that had a sad fate was "Boys Don't Cry".

Not me, but my ex. Every time she saw that "Beaches" with Bette Midler she would bawl. Problem was , we had it on VHS!! AND she would watch it like once a week, HELP!!

Jenny from Forrest Gump... Kind of got me, but then, she got AIDS screwing around, and could have killed my boy Forrest... die you dirty dog!

"you know I mowed that lawn just because I liked to"---FG

i know he is evil, but what about in The Good Son, where he looks up and asks him mom to save him, then she drops him...

Pvt Bligh in Band of Brothers. Dude survives jumping into D-Day. Then he overcomes his fears as LT Winters shows compassion. Then he leads a patrol just before the unit returns to England - gets shot in the neck. You don't know how serious it was. Then in the post scripts that wrap up the episode it states that he died two years later in a VA hospital.

So I'm clicking through this thread and thinking, "yeah, that was one of the ones that came to mind when I saw this thread," or "that death was pretty sad," or "hmm, I've never seen that movie," etc. and then I get to this-

So I just read this thread and have just a couple more suggestions that haven't been brought up (btw Life is Beautiful is probably the toughest for me).

Cool Hand Luke - Paul Newman/Luke

The Royal Tenenbaums - Gene Hackman/Royal, this scene kills me when he smiles as he holds Ben Stiller's hand.

American History X - Edward Furlong/Danny Vinyard

Magnolia - Jason Robards/Earl Partridge, this is just an emotional movie and the break down scene to the Aimee Mann song is classic. Also could nominate William H. Macy in Boogie Nights.

I saw Debra Winger in "Terms of Endearment" mentioned.

Here are some:

Jack Nicholson and Peter Fonda in "Easy Rider."

Satine (Nicole Kidman) in "Moulon Rouge.

Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) in "Superman."

Buddy Holly in "The Buddy Holly Story."

"Brian's Song."

"The Notebook."

Younger brother at the end of "American History X."

King Kong in the original movie.

Leon in "The Professional."

Execution in "The Green Mile."

Bruce Willis in "Armageddon."

Adrianna and Big ***** in "The Sopranos."

I must be heartless.

Bruce Willis in Armageddon?? come on!

I will say the girl in red in Schindler's list, also the boy whose bathtub scrubbing in the same movie was not good enough.

any animated death usually gets me.

land before time is traumatic. bambi, mufasa from lion king...

i was going to mention steel magnolias too until someone finally mentioned it.

that and My Girl were the first two movies that popped in mind when i first read the title. there are a lot of sad deaths mentioned on this thread though. many good ones. what dreams may come is a powerful one.

and to whomever said the death in CLICK.... i dunno why, but when i saw this movie a couple months ago, that scene at the end ******* choked me up too. i just sat there like, "what the **** trey, it's a damn adam sandler movie and you're about to ******* cry"

The son yelling at Debra Winger in the hospital when he is supposed to say goodbye to his dying mother was the only movie scene that's ever made me upset.

Although It turned out not to be a death, the scene in Crash where it appears that the Persian store-owner accidentally shoots the Locksmith's daughter got me pretty bad. My first-born was around a year old when i saw that and I almost completely lost it...powerful, powerful scene.
