Saddest death in a movie

Augustus McCrae, hands down.

Also, A River Runs Through It. Brad Pitt's character dies shortly after catching that big *** trout.

Sad and poetic.

Agree on many of the picks.

Pet Sematary

As stated, child deaths are rough.

I disagree, personally, with the Saving Private Ryan and Life is Beautiful selections, though.

SPR just pisses me off. I don't get sad.
LiB made me terribly sad but in the end I realize that Guido won. His son made it out and he certainly would have willingly sacrificed himself to make it so. Obviously better if he makes it out with him. But still.

can't think of the saddest one, but one that comes to mind is joaquin phoenix in ladder 49.

almost forgot that when gabriel (heath ledger) dies in the patriot.... the scene where benjamin martin (mel gibson) just breaks down crying as gabriel takes his last breath in ben's arms...

**** that is sad.

didn't the dog die in sounder also? i haven't seen the movie or read the book in many years, but something in the back of my mind tells me that it was traumatic.

The scenes where Scratchy (of Itchy & Scratchy fame) gets dismembered are always hard.

Also.....my mom told me that Old Yeller came back to life right at the end. Are you telling me he actualy died...? WTF.

not so much sad, but when Kevin Spacey's character gets shot and dies in LA Confidential.

Man, that scene is so believable. As he expires, the life just leaves his face/eyes. It's pretty amazing.

CGI or just great acting?

Saving Private Ryan: Unnamed soldier on Omaha beach screeming "MAMA!" Still gives me bad chills just thinking about it. CLose second is Giovanni Ribisi as the medic also from Saving Private Ryan.

All good suggestions, How about the original movie "Hair" it always gets me. Remember, they want to give the guy who is in the army a going away party, so his buddy goes to the barracks in his place, and he goes with their friends. While the real soldier is partying, his friend is woke up, sent off to fight in Vietnam, and killed, That gets me.

Pacino in Carlito's Way. He decides to hang up the thug life, and tells his girl to meet him at the train station. He gets his stuff together, and wants to try to settle down. At the last moment, just as he is stepping on the train, he is killed by John Leguizamo. I hate that ending.

Also Pacino, when he has his brother killed in Godfather III. Every time I think about it, it gives me the chills.

Bonnie and Clyde met a rather unpleasant demise.
But the winner would be Ole Yeller. I hated that movie, and ever since, any movie where the director thinks it is a good idea to kill off a dog to prove someone is a villian, I hate that movie too. I would never take a kid to Ole Yeller.
