Saddest death in a movie

I probably wouldn't have thought of it myself, but Lane Frost's death in "8 Seconds" might be the toughest for me.

I never would have believed that Luke Perry and Stephen Baldwin would play real-life rodeo cowboys Frost and Tuff Hedeman as well as they did. Also, the soundtrack of that movie is fantastic.

Dafoe in Platoon.

Where the Red Fern Grows now takes a second place to Sam in I Am Legend.

And regarding that kid in Blackhawk Down, it was hard just reading that part in the book. Seeing it sucks as well.

And my corny entry is Arnold in T2.

good one on the life is beautiful.

i remember being very young and watching legends of the fall by myself on cable on a saturday morning while the rest of my family was still asleep (i think it was on cinemax or something). actually i was around 12 or so but still, the scene where brad pitt's brother is gunned down by the germans while he is trapped on the barbwire and blind from the nerve gas. man, that one gets me, the agony from seeing your loved one being killed while you are so close to the scene. . .it gets me every time....

just kidding..

Larry McMurtry was pretty good with the emotional death scene (references to Deets and Gus above).

The death of Debra Winger's character in Terms of Endearment was pretty rough as well.

i have a friend who named her son Gage. I cant even say his name or see him without thinking about PS.

saddest movie death for me? My Girl. We had just had our first son. and I thought oh this will be a sweet movie....WRONG. me and my wife were bawling like babies....why did they have to kill that kid! it served no purpose other than to make people cry. i still hate anyone associated with the writing and directing of that movie.

When Rocky Dennis dies in "Mask". I watched it recently after having not seen it for years, great acting and a pretty good movie overall. Cher did a great job playing his mother.

good call on 'life is beautiful'.
rockydennis is alive and well. his name is no rumer willis.

When I stare at my beautiful two-year old daughter, what immediately comes to mind is "My Life". I want nothing more than to be around for her, to watch her grow up, and to see her get married and find a life of her own.

And with my wife haveing lost her mother at a very young age to cancer makes this movie unwatchable.

Other ones that get me (most mentioned):
Life is Beautiful
SPR
What Dreams May Come
Patch Adams
Forrest Gump

In "White Squall", when the wife and kid drown. The kid had a fear of dying, too, bc his brother had died an early death and didn't escape bc he was looking for the picture that he had kept to remind him of his brother.

Witt dying in Thin Red Line was pretty upsetting to me, but it's when Sean Penn looks at his grave and says, "where's your light now"? with tears in his eyes that makes it get me.

Also, whoever said Goose hit a walk-off homer.

I have to take issue with those naming action/violent movies like Thin Red Line. I mean, you expect violence as a premise of those movies.

I had no idea Where the Red Fern Grows was ever made into a movie, but I know the book is the saddest thing I've ever read.

Captain Miller in Saving Private Ryan dying with the words, "James, earn this" followed by the voice over of George Marshall's letter to Mrs. Ryan quoting Abraham Lincoln with, "I pray that our heavnly Father may asuage the anguish of your bearvement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom."
