And that's fair. Its the personal attacks I'm not ok with. We all have feelings and it's not fair to denegrate anyone for having a genuine concern or desire to know what befell someone they care about. Others shouldn't tell you or me or anyone else that their level of concern or care is invalid.
Your care or concern isn't invalid.
Your denigration of the family is.

Nice idea.....and not necessarily saying he shouldn't have....but that could have sewn seeds of discord by showing favoritism, as there are quite a few other qualified walk ons, some perhaps more talented (though not the brother of the starting QB), to consider.
I do agree it could potentially have had a positive effect, also.
Nobody even is saying it had to be a full game...but they could have permitted him to suit up, come out of the tunnel with Sam and see action either at the end of first half or a series to start the second half.

Not necessarily Mooney time, but same net effect in terms of generating some good will...

I brought up the idea that I was surprised that Jake did not even play in a game. I think it speaks more to Tom Herman than Jake or Sam, who never would have asked. The entire Herman relationship to UT puzzles me, because we were told he was such a UT guy and so friendly and good at recruiting. And when he was fired, we were told he had no defenders in the regents, alumni, or players. Herman put the program on Sam's back and clearly that was bad for Sam and bad for Texas football. We have all these 5 star recruits and I guess we had no running backs or tight ends or anyone who could step in as QB when Sam was not having a good game. If you are going to put the team on one player's back and you let his brother walk on, I cannot believe you could not create a moment for the two brothers. Not a game, not a starting position, just a moment. I always had my doubts when Herman would not refer to a kicker by name -- even when that player made your season. Now I know Tom Herman was not a good human being.

I don’t think Herman is as a bad as people say....maybe he was, but rumors can be ********.
I saw plenty of nice gestures by Herman. He gave several hard working walk ons a full ride. The way he did it with him calling the parents and announcing to the team was cool.
I think Herman played Walk-ons more than Mack Brown. The MLB that started the Utah game was once a walk-on. There seems to be a dozen walk-ons or so and it is hard to get them all in. Where Jake was on that spectrum I don’t know.

I thought this during the bowl game…… come on Herman , for crying out loud Sam carried you - can you not find it in your heart for Jake to get a series?

Just saw this. If you saw my impression that they might be embarrassed as "denigrating" ok. That's on you. Again, I've been alive for 40+ years and seen this kind of thing play out too many times.

When Cole Pittman died, we knew what happened. When Ced died, we knew what happened. When Haruka Weiser died, we knew what happened, when Jennifer Cave died, we knew what happened, when Nicky Cumberland died, we knew what happened, when Farhan and Tanvir Towhid died, we knew what happened...

And there are more, and their causes of death were all released. All of these deaths are tragic and horrible and may God rest their souls. There is no death voyeurism or denigration involved with any of these situations.

My commenting that the family may be embarrassed by his passing is based on everything we know, and don't know, and the vitriolic verbal attacks on those of us who have asked if there was any official cause of death released, because, there almost always is regardless of whether it's murder, suicide, alcohol or drug related or otherwise. The fact that there is an overt attempt to quash anyone who dares wonder aloud what befell one of our student athletes doesn't make it a stretch to comment that the family might be embarrassed.

I asked a simple question that could have been easily answered in one sentence without being verbally attacked, and there are those who are still trying to paint me as vile for it. Enough.

I learned a long time ago on this board that whatever you say can be held against you in hornfans court of law.
You are alright in my book and i know you are innocent.

I've been on Hornfans for 20 years. I'm not going to suspend reality in the face of mafioso bully tactics. No cause has been released as we have been reminded. That was the question. It was answered. Anyone want to be tool about it still?

Bud, I respectfully disagree. That LB played because of the D Coordinator change (for that game)said the LB deserved to start. And it appeared that the one game D coordinator was correct.
Mack would regularly clear the bench. At times Craig Way was unable to identify the kid on the field.
I saw him speak once at a luncheon and he would tell recruits that if they came to UT , they would play. I said recruits, here.
He tried to play as many as possible he said because it boosts the moral of the entire team.

And there were times during Mack’s tenure 4-5 players on the field we’re 3rd string plus walkons (admittedly back in the large margin 4th quarter games).
That’s one of the things I loved about Mack.

I do.
And you didn't say "might be embarrassed".
You said "Clearly they are embarrassed".

And I've been on this planet 60+ years so I guess that makes my opinion better than yours. :)

I come here less and less these days because of crap like this^^^^^.
Excuse me, what did I say that would result in that?
My opinion was that Mack played 3rd string and walk ons and I heard him at a luncheon talk about it?
I really don’t understand your passion here H2O.
If I said something to anger you, brother I assure you you misunderstood me. Let me make it right. No sarcasm.

Moon is right, here, NR.....nothing related to you or anything you've said.. You are probably one of the more reasonable....and innocuous ...posters on here.

And I wasn't trying to pin it all on you, Moon, either ......just most of it! Lol
(And Moon, by stating this^^^ I'm not saying I believe you were all wrong in what you were saying)

Geez- my bad. I think Moon responded between my post and yours and I don’t see Moons posts any longer as he is in my ignored list, so I thought you were referring to me.
Thanks bud.
