RIP Jake Ehlinger

There is a rumor among students that I WILL NOT discuss in this forum because I’m considering the source but you’d think there would be an “official cause of death” released this week.
 
Not having the LHN I was unable to watch the opening game against LT in '19
Watched it last night on you tube. When the players were still in the tunnel Sam and Jake were right up front. Must have been a proud and joyous moment tempered with sadness their dad wasn't there to share it with them, their mom, and sister. The team ran onto the field with Jake carrying the American flag. Have to admit it gave me a chill. RIP Jake

Been thinking about this horrible loss ever since I first heard. God bless the Ehlinger family and help them pull through. Please Lord give them consolation today from the Celebration of Life Ceremony. Help Sam to get through it and press on with his life.

Pretty amazing Sam could find those words.
 
Prayers up for the Ehlinger family! After the funeral is the toughest time. Once the reality sets in. My best friend buried his son who I was also close to back in very early March. I'm still not over it yet. Sam is strong emotionally, but this will really test him. Change him.
 
Westlake Football announced the new Jake and Jackson 3616 Football Fighting Heat Award, presented annually to the player who best exemplifies Jake Ellinger and Jackson Coker. Terrific act by Westlake.

I cannot understand why Herman would not let Jake play in one game during Sam's last season. I know he is a walk on but if a player is part of the team culture that could motivate the rest of the team. They certainly do it in college basketball.

Nice idea.....and not necessarily saying he shouldn't have....but that could have sewn seeds of discord by showing favoritism, as there are quite a few other qualified walk ons, some perhaps more talented (though not the brother of the starting QB), to consider.
I do agree it could potentially have had a positive effect, also.

Hate to speculate ....but the longer it goes without one, the more it lends credence to my aweful suspicion which I hope I am wrong about.
Better just let this rest in peace as clearly the family doesn't want otherwise

If people want to know, I suggest you get your *** to over to the house and ask Jana

OR

Fly on up to training camp and ask Sam.

Either option will likely get the **** beat out of you, but you will learn a valuable life lesson after you have made thousands of enemies for life. Take heart though, you will have some sympathy from those few who regret your stupidity.

BTW, where the **** were you when Baylor killed the football player on steroids?

Wow. Didn't think a sincere question would be met by such vitriol. Any time a 20 year old student is found dead near campus its a tragedy for their family and friends but especially concerning such a high profile student I don't find it odd that there are many who genuinely care, myself included, to know what happened. Is it wrong for us to have a sense of closure as well or will this forever be shrouded in mystery? "Oh he just died and it doesn't matter how so stop asking or you'll get beat."

If he died of a heart attack (which is certainly possible) I don't know why it would be a state secret. When poor Cole Pittman died we all found out it was a car accident. Can you imagine if it was kept a secret and anyone asking what happened was threatened with bodily harm or called stupid for merely inquiring?

It was a simple question. You either know and don't want to say or you don't know. No need to verbally attack me for an honest question...
 
I guess in my mind it's none of our business unless the family chooses to make it our business. Their silence by no means indicates cause to me. At the end of the day I pray Jake is with his dad and the family here finds comfort and strength until they see them both again.

Just recently I found out an old high school classmate died while traveling. I asked a friend who knew him better than I what happened. Turns out he was in Mexico and apparently intervened in a mugging attempt on someone else and was killed. I wasn't verbally attacked for asking. As human beings anytime we lose someone it really does help provide closure when we know what happened. No one needs gritty details but understanding why someone has passed always helps the healing process.

Then the answer appears to be that no cause of death has been released. Simple.
 
I'll go further and say that it is important for the general public to know how he died.
If he died from covid or another sickness its important to know.
If he died from an overdose of drugs then its an important lesson to be learned, especially to his teammates.
If it turns out to be foul play then its important to know.
The living need to know how a person dies so they can take steps to avoid the same fate.

So, Sabre, while I understand your sentiment, you were way out of line and how about doing some critical thinking before you go off on an emotional rant. Maybe you need to apologize to 2003texasgrad.
Oh by the way you need your mouth washed out with soap. This is a family site.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, I just want to understand your view - should the cause of each person's death be published? Not to take a thread focused on Jake too far off track, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts as there seems to be a fine line between the knowledge you advocate for, which makes sense, and individual privacy. I guess the appropriate authorities track the causes according to the death certificates and can release the information with names redacted...

I'm am saddened by his passing but when a young person dies in the prime of his life, seemingly very healthy, we the living need to know why this happened in order to take steps to avoid the same fate. That's just common sense.
If a homeless dude dies of malnutrition we need to know that so that a greater effort can be made to help the homeless. If a celebrity dies, like Jake, in the prime of his life, we need to know why. If its an embarrassing situation, too bad, we need to know the truth to avoid making the same mistake. If his death is from natural causes then its not embarrassing but lessons may be learned anyway. But we should know why.

SabreHorn, you should know that I have massive respect for you, but I think you are off base here.

For the reasons Pompoms eloquently stated above, I personally would like to know. That desire shouldn’t be interpreted as being disrespectful toward the family. I also have no issue with the matter being kept secret, although again I would like to know.

Perhaps none of us “deserve to know,” but we aren’t bad people for “wanting to know.”
 
To me, this has to be beyond painful for the family and if they want to keep that private- that’s enough for me.
If the only thing I can do sitting in Arlington Texas... is to give them the privacy they want- I’ll do that.
I cannot imagine loosing my son.
May peace find the Ehlingers.
I’m out on this.
