Replacement for Augie....Who would you offer ???

Erin Hogan said on the radio this morning that he heard Texas is waiting on Tadlock from TTU.
That would make sense, but Tech probably can muster up enough to keep him from jumping to Texas (maybe not so much to an out of conference school).

If Florida wins the CWS, no way Sullivan leaves. Hopefully Perrin has something in place which will manifest itself in a couple of weeks after the CWS is over. If not, the coach at SanJac has a better NJCAA record than Tadlock so maybe his "rough around the edges" knock can be overlooked by providing him with the proper assistance. (And for those who care - that would be settling.)

He only makes around $400,000. He will get an increase of $100,000 next year for winning the conference in 2016. If that is true, I think Texas would make an offer that almost doubles that.

That being said, O'Sullivan is my first choice.

Hoping O'Sullivan gets routed twice (by TTU and TCU in whatever order), end the season on a sour note, and then remove his frown with a Texas-sized contract offer. :smile1:

Tadlock is a TTU alum don't think he'll leave easily. Those Lubbock folks love them some Lubbock.

The he was an alum of a certain school and he is loyal has some merit but not as much as you one would think. It is the coaching world and they all know that they have to look out for themselves first and foremost. If he is offered by Texas, I would bet he takes it.

Agreed, but, I have been to Lubbock many times and I never could understand the incredible love of the place some Lubbock lovers have.... figured it is something to be aware of but that I would never quite get.

We have single-handedly revised college baseball coach valuations.
I am sure everyone else loves us even more for that

I know some of those Red Raider fans are pretty out there (shoving goal posts into the stands; but all is forgiven since it was against the Aggies; but I must say that it was not a nice thing to do especially if anyone was hurt) but I have a soft spot for Lubbock. I dated a young lady enrolled at Tech back in '83-84. I lived in Dallas and had a friend (we were out of school) who also dated a Tech coed so we'd road trip out to see them. One time we ran out of gas on the outskirts of town. So we get out and he sticks his thumb out and gets a ride within minutes. I stayed with the car while they went for gas and there must have been at least five to ten different people who pulled over asking if I needed help. It happened a long time ago but I still remember feeling that I was in a very safe and caring place.

I lived there, too. In fact I worked at Texas Tech. The locals are the nicest people you'll ever meet. Until they find out you like UT. Then they become "not so nice".

Seems like these rivalries and need for victory are a bit over the top. Probably a major understatement. There's not need for anger; a good rivalry is fun but that's if it's more than that then you turn into Baylor where the road of obsession dead-ends where common decency is but a memory.

Only because OSU probably doesn't mind losing him since they probably figure he was close to retiring and taking a desk job a year or so ago anyway....SMH....Not sure if he has the fire to rebuild Texas. May be getting a younger "late in life" Augie with him.....

From today's The Oregonian:

"Casey considered stepping down as OSU coach in both 2008 and 2011 to take an administrative position at the school. After Bob De Carolis announced he was stepping down as athletic director in May 2015, Casey left open the possibility of wanting the position that eventually went to Todd Stansbury.

Casey's most recently amended contract includes a section that allows for his reassignment to other duties prior to the end of the agreement. In case of that event, he would be given 50 percent of his base salary each year until the end of the contract."

Sounds like he's tired. A good coach no doubt, but I wonder how much fire he could bring and for how many years. A good young coach would be a better way to go IMO, as has happened in the other sports.

TX really needs a younger coach, someone with fire to get out and really recruit hard. This has been Augie's biggest downfall. My son was a D1 pitching prospect and attended the TX pitching camp 3 years ago. Augie did not even bother to show up (Yes, I know Skip is the pitching coach). Skip was great though and very complimentary to my son, which I appreciated.

I'm trying to stay positive in the face of all the reported refusals of the position. I'm not sure that any of these statements are final.

If O’Sullivan etc aren’t interested, why is no one mentioning Jay Johnson, head coach of the Arizona Wildcats. He’s young at about 39. In his first year at Arizona, he has his team 2 wins from playing for a national championship after not even being ranked in the preseason. We’d have liked more major college experience, but the experience he does have is pretty good.

In two seasons at Nevada, Johnson guided the Wolf Pack to a 72-42 record. In 2015, Nevada posted a 41-15 record and captured the school’s first-ever Mountain West title with a 22-6 mark in league play. The Wolf Pack was ranked in the top 25 for much of the season and totaled a 13-1 record in series of at least three games. The 41 overall wins ranked second in program history. Under Johnson’s exciting and competitive brand of baseball, fan support quickly grew for the Wolf Pack program, including the first sell out in program history on April 26. The 2015 club averaged 8.0 runs per game and batted .317 – both figures that ranked in the top five nationally. The pitching staff ranked second in the Mountain West in earned run average. In 2015 Johnson was named Mountain West Coach of the Year.

Before his stint at Nevada, Johnson was the associate head coach at the University of San Diego from 2006-13. While at San Diego, Johnson helped the Toreros make six trips to NCAA postseason (2006-08, ‘10, 2012-13) and capture four West Coast Conference titles in 2007, ‘08, ‘10 and ‘13. Johnson served as USD's hitting coach and recruiting coordinator. He helped recruit USD's 2008 class, which was ranked number one in the nation by Baseball America. The Toreros 2010 recruiting class was ranked second in the nation. In six of eight seasons, the Toreros ranked first in the WCC in overall team hitting.

So Arizona will give him a raise and extension if we come after him....Plus that statement alone....Why leave there where they probably think he is God's gift right now and where he can win titles just as easily, if not easier than here...... Face it...We are not getting any really good power conference head coach...We have to do it like ALL the other winning programs of today have done it. Go get a great assistant, or up and comer from lower ranks.

Agreed that if we cannot get a top tier proven head coach, we might be better off taking a chance on an up and coming assistant coach.

No talk about the Dallas Baptist coach? Seems like he has been solid, but maybe not enough established history?

Everybody needs to step away from the keyboard and take a deep breath. None of these guys (Bohls, Autullo, Rogers, Ketchum, etc.) have any more knowledge of what is going on in the athletics dept than we do.

The next head baseball coach at Texas is coaching in Omaha today. If he weren't, we'd already have one.

The best coach in college baseball----the best coach in the country----is 20 yards from our Athletic Director's office......all the athletic department needed to do was accept Augie's request for money for a hitting coach (He had the Texas Rangers Hitting Coach lined up for the job 2 years ago)....but the Athletic Dept. refused the request.
Now we're stuck talking about hiring a mid-major coach, a juco coach, an unproven assistant coach, etc. Is this the "Make UT Baseball Great Again" we wanted?.....
Hell, Augie had us in Omaha 2 years ago.....1 hit away from playing for the National Championship.....so we dump him.....all of his credentials and successes in the College World Series be damned! Oh yeah...and the 2 National Championships he brought us.... Yeah...that's it...let's get a juco coach, or the coach from Tulane, or the assistant coach from a mid-major. That's it!
If we can't pull a rabbit out of the hat and steal TCU's coach or Florida's coach (which seems unlikely), we better beg forgiveness from Augie, give him the money to hire a top-notch hitting coach, and pray he accepts our apologies!
