The deceased did assault someone. That someone was the shooter.

Arbery was shot and killed Feb. 23 while out jogging in Brunswick, Georgia. The incident did not receive widespread national news coverage until last week, when video of his killing was made public.

After massive public outcry, Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son Travis McMichael, 34, were charged with murder and aggravated assault on Thursday.

I'll be honest and say I was under the impression the local law enforcement didn't know who shot him, but now it looks like they knew the shooter and that he was former law enforcement.

It to me looks like the only reason they were even charged is because of the video that came forward. Which is very shady in and of itself.

Anyone ever notice that in a situation like this, as guilty as they appear to be, that it is perfectly acceptable to use a term like "redneck" over and over to describe them? If the situation was reversed, would it be acceptable to label 2 black guys with a derogatory term in kind?

Redneck is a choice just like being gay is a choice. But I will say why I call them Rednecks, they look like rednecks.

So, how has the media treated these differently? The killer was dead. He didn't get by for almost 3 months with no action by law enforcement. So, had the caught the guy before he died of gunshot wounds, do you think he'd have walked free for almost 3 months not being charged by anyone? If so, then, yes, you'd be correct.

I was in media for a while and we were taught not to emphasize race of a perp unless it was part of a police description needed to help in apprehension. Direct me to the place where Arbery is shown breaking into homes. Also, Someone else on this thread, maybe not you, Garmel, said that Arbery was trespassing. I haven't seen the source of this claim. Were there signs? Is there evidence that Arbery stole something? I'm late to following this story, but I did read the Georgia Criminal Trespass statute. It appears to describe a misdemeanor, not a felony, and Arbery's conduct on the video I saw on your post doesn't demonstrate any unlawful act. The Citizen's Arrest statute doesn't seem to fit, unless I am missing something (quite possible). What am I missing, other than a bunch of conclusion jumping?

You seem to have no qualms making a judgement about the victim in this case. I'm just saying a black man with an understanding of history might be scared and angry being confronted by armed but clearly not police folks seeking to detain him.
