Not worth much. OU's pass defense was bad. Texas' pass defense was terrible.

Texas made a major coaching change to address the situation.

I didn't follow OU's off-season at all, were any coaching changes made on the defensive side of the ball?

Anyway, I agree that OU should be ahead of Texas this year, and so do most of the other people who follow college football. We'll see OU as a concensus preseason Top 3-5 pick nationally, and we'll see Texas as a preseason #8-#15 pick nationally.

None of that will matter at all at the Cotton Bowl in October.

Hook 'em.

Yeah s2077- the sooners don't have any rebuilding to do. They just lost all of their secondary and 2 out of 3 LBs. We just automatically give them the game!

If you look at the average for the entire season OU was ranked ahead of UT in passing defense. I was more referring to their head to head matchup since that is what this thread is talking about.

OU threw the ball 6 more times yet had 244 yards passing vs. 324 yards for UT. 11.6 yards per completion vs. 17.1 for UT. Both teams had their issues in the secondary and had big holes in the middle of the field. As they matched up last year though OU was more porous in the passing game. With the loss of 3 guys in the secondary I expect them to be rebuilding that unit as well and porous as again this year as well.

OU defense was a bit weak last season, especially against the pass. Long threads have a way of turning into trees and branching out. Don't misread. UT's defense was equally as bad.

But for other posters to think that OU will have a stout defense this year with losses in it's secondary I have issues. I have more reason to be optimistic about UT's defense this year. Add in both offenses with a couple of key losses and you return about even offenses. Thus defense could be the difference in another close game.

How do you figure they'll be just about even on offense? RB, OL, TE positions all clearly favor OU. McCoy will bounce back and limit his turnovers. But Bradford doesn't lose any of his protection so I don't see him falling into a sophomore slump like McCoy. I like Iglesis better that Crosby but Shipley better than Manuel Johnson. Both teams will be relying on some young, unproven talents to step up so who the hell knows.

I don't think we'll be dominant on defense. The DL will be one of the best in nation so that's going to really help take the pressure of the young back 7 while they learn on the fly. I think we'll definitely be faster back there.

I think I can't wait for this upcoming season the same way I can't but have to each year. I think I speak for most if not all of you on this.

I further think that whether we are favored on paper or ou is, I will still have a tough time sleeping the night before and have my tummy in a knot before and sometimes during the game. Sometimes I want to puke after it but hopefully this won't be one of those years.

Yeah,When my Navy buddies(Who were Texas fans) and I would be talking about the RRW on a wild Va Beach Saturday night we both agreed..Win or lose we are glad when it's over.

Since- I know that you know some football, but one thing puzzles me. Every game that OU has lost in about the last 3-4 yrs. you can lay at the feet of that secondary. It was basically the same bunch for that time. Yet, you set here and still defend them. You are right they are bad! This has turned into a hell of a thread arguing over who had the worst secondary. We all know ours was bad and admiit it, but not sooner fans! They were preaching the crap that they had the best in the nation before last season started. The NC games, Boise St., TT,and West Virginia. The losses to Texas in '05 and '06 were games that we took advantage of that bunch. Last year not as much because of OL problems we didn't have as much time to throw, but it didn't mean that secondary was better. There just is never anything wrong with that team at any time. You sound like a press secretary for Stoops!

I would give advantage to McCoy going into Junior year vs. Bradford going into Sophomore season. Plus UT brings back Chiles which is a plus in the QB and RB position. OL is not all seniors as OU and I would give OU the advantage there but not a big one. UT's OL had 3 true frosh in the rotation last season and a young kid in Hall playing 5 different positions at times. All of those guys are back plus Adam and Dock. I like this UT OL unit. I will like them more next year but I still like this unit. WR unit is very deep for UT. Sweed was gone most of last season anyways and Pittman didn't play much at all so Jones is really the biggest loss there. OU losing Patrick at RB and Finley at TE has to have some effect on OU's offense.

I just say give it a push until proven otherwise.
