I think the other player who still has a RS is Jacoby Jones

With regard to Bimage, if I understand the rules correctly, the player who still has a RS left has an interesting choice to make. If you RS, you still get to practice with team, attend all the team activities and can play in up to 4 games. However, if you "opt out" due to the virus from China, while you retain all your financial benefits you must stay away from the team, no practicing or working out with them.

Note Eagles was up and down last year too.

Agree. He is a great athlete with superb testing numbers but that does not always necessarily translate into great receiver. There are different ways to look at him running with the 2s, I prefer to see it as improved competition and some very talented young players
Still, if I was forced to bet on it, I would bet he was back with the 1s for game one.

Then I suppose we will find out real quick who is "sitting" out of genuine fear and who is just being opportunistic. I don't care nor am I judging either way...just think it is intriguing.

Another practice report on Omeire

I’m sure most of you have seen the picture released by Texas football of freshman receiver Troy Omeire - the one where the 6-foot-3, 230-pound receiver, rocking his No. 21 jersey, looks like freakin Megatron (Calvin Johnson) from a physical standpoint, right?

Well, you’ll be glad to know the kid doesn’t just look the part. Omeire (pronounced Oh-MEER-ee) has been one of the best players — not just the best freshmen — on the field the first five days of practice.

Again, there have been no fully-padded practices, so no one has been able to lay licks on the receivers. But team sources are already calling Omeire a freak because of his length, grown-***-man body, and oven-mitt-like hands snatching balls out of the air.

One team source told me, “Omeire has made more plays in the first five practices than Brennan Eagles and (Joshua) Moore combined. Jake Smith has been solid. But Omiere’s probably made more plays than Smith, too.
”

More freshman WR talk

The other freshman receiver drawing a lot of praise is Kelvontay Dixon, who wears No. 16 (the number was worn last year by Jake Smith, who now wears No. 7) and goes by "Moochie" as Herman mentioned in February ("he goes by ‘Moochie,’ so that’s really what I know him as," Herman said).

Dixon and freshman receiver Dajon Harrison have both shown great use of their speed in route running to get separation from defensive backs, but Dixon has made more plays in what has basically been a 7-on-7 format for much of practice.

I’m told Eagles, Moore and Marcus Washington have been “up and down” while Omiere and Dixon have “come bursting out of the gates.”

That same source said, “It’s early. There are freshman walls to be hit, and - again - we haven’t even put on full pads. So, let’s go slow here. Seven-on-7 is a different game from 11-on-11 on Saturdays.”

Way too rational...No thanks, I'd rather take this info as an understatement of how amazingly, unprecedented, unstoppable, and earth-shatteringly good our freshmen, WR room in general, and air attack will be this year. Think I'll just run with it...because it makes me happy.

Plus he flipped on Aggy. Even better.

I'm disappointed that Eagles hasn't stepped up. We need him to with all of these youngsters around. I do like that the freshmen are playing good ball though.

Something on the OL from Justin Wells, Gerry Hamilton, and Eric Nahlin

The Isaiah Hookfin to guard revelation right before camp was apparently foreshadowing. He’s legitimately pushing to start. If he does start, that tells us the staff is more comfortable with him at guard than Christian Jones at tackle.

Right now the most likely starting line is probably Cosmi-Angilau-Kerstetter-Hookfin-Okafor. But that could change by Sunday. We’ll see how the Saturday scrimmage goes. This defensive line is a tough test for the OL.

Willie Tyler is also competing at guard. I expect him to play this year. He put in work over the offseason.

Don’t sleep on Reese Moore long-term.

Depth at tackle and center still isn’t ideal.

And Justin Wells, Gerry Hamilton, and Eric Nahlin on the DL

With Marqez Bimage opting out for the season, competition thinned at strong-side defensive end. Left standing are Jacoby Jones and Moro Ojomo. Freshman Vernon Broughton is also there.

With defensive tackle being fairly deep, Ta’Quon Graham could always filter back over to d-end if need be, but as a physically mature senior he’s built for the interior defensive line.

Daniel Carson has received second team reps at defensive tackle.

The staff will pursue Elerson Smith from the University of Northern Iowa. They want to get bendier on the edge and he would help. Emerson recently entered the Portal and will have a long list of suitors. These guys follow opportunity, not logos.

With the Big Ten and Pac-12, along with their satellite conferences, forgoing this season you can assume staffers are hitting F5 on the Portal throughout the day.

Yet another quote about Omeire and the WRs
I admit I was not all that excited with his commit - just goes to show you that sometimes its good to be wrong

I’m glad clips of Troy Omeire are making the rounds otherwise it would sound like we’re writing about William Wallace. He’s been the best receiver of camp, not just the best freshman receiver. He’s giving the corners the business. They aren’t struggling nearly as much with others. Most encouragingly, he isn’t just winning with size. We knew he could be a big-time target receiver, we didn’t know he’d be this explosive even after a really strong senior campaign.

Kelvontay Dixon is also looking good. He’s playing outside at the field Z receiver. He’s a smooth route runner with legit speed who is showing the ability to separate. Sort of like Josh Moore.

Jake Smith has a kung fu grip on H but Moore is proving too good to keep off the field and pushing to start at Z. He and Marcus Washington are battling there. Of course Moore can also come on and play inside in 10 personnel.

Smith at H and Moore at Slot would also make it easy to carve out a role for Jordan Whittington to come in at slot in 10 personnel.

If you are going to be a talker, you had better be a walker.
You can get away with a lot more if you are one of the best on the field. If he doesn't bring it this year for this team (and I am rooting for him to) after an offseason of outspoken and not-so-popular-with-everyone activism...well lets just say he wont go down as one of the all-time fan faves.
No one will be putting his# up in the "Countdown to the Season" threads.

William Wallace lol
Now that's funny

Injuries at first scrimmage...... What else is new in Herman's program...Omiere hurt his knee in non-contact play, and Woodard (sp) and someone else got stingers and had to be helped off the field. SMDH

I fail to see how a WR tweaking a knee while running a route could be the fault of a head coach. In any event, 9 Sooners tested positive for Covid and at least 4 are out for significant time due to injury - so I would say we are in good shape compared to them.

Riley reports that nine Sooners have tested positive for COVID-19

AAS' Brain Davis called it a "tweaked knee" but sounds worse than that, others say Omeire is out for the season with partially torn ACL
