Random Season News

You know it is a dire situation when the coach does an about face while channeling Bette Midler.
If things get too rough he may go full Celine Dion on us.
Sorry, coach. I'm still a fan. But my love interest with your team and program recently became a much more selfish affair.
You and M2 do realize it was CDC that did the wind beneath our wing quote, not TH?

Maj probably did, but no I did not! Thanks for pointing it out, Uisge.
I honestly just glanced at it and was trying to have some fun at THs expense. IMO he asked for it, but..in this case...
guess the jokes on me.
Either way, quite a bit of irony there IMO..
Though I stand by my sentiment, I'll delete the post out of fairness to Tom.
I still support the guy.

We are ranked 14 in the Coaches Poll
I pulled that up with my grumblings already warmed up.....but, honestly, looks pretty good to me. I view Florida as overrated....and have LSU in prove it mode w tons of key departures. Feel Oregon gets too much love. UT can be top 10 or out of top 25 depending on the day, time, and place.

Just win baby!

Gerry Hamilton joined IT this week. Here is some comments from someone he says is a "trusted college football coach, that has ties and up close and personal details on Texas."

On T’Vondre Sweat
“The best defensive tackle prospect at Texas since Shaun Rogers.” Says both Sweat and Keondre Coburn will play in the NFL. Coburn is ahead of Sweat in understanding of how hard you have to play on every snap. When Sweat gets to Coburn’s level of consistent effort, “watch out.”
Joshua Moore
“The best receiver in the program.” This source has always been bullish on Moore, and remains so. Says he was getting “locked in” on what he needed to do to realize his potential last season.
Marcus Washington
Should be a multi-year starter. Not as fast as others, but a “great competitor that will win too many reps and be too consistent to keep off the field.”
Isaiah Hookfin
Has “great feet.” Said not good, but great feet twice. Thing that surprised most about Hookfin was how much of a worker he was. That was an unknown when he signed, but very impressed by how hard Hookfin works … “Hookfin is a grinder.”
Added that he will be surprised if Tyler Johnson isn’t a quality player. And that Christian Jones still a year away from being a quality Big 12 starter. Still so young as a football player, especially the offensive line demands to play at a high level.
Juwan Mitchell
“The kid that’s been in and out of the portal can really play.” Says Mitchell with a healthy Tillman and Gbenda having a year in the program will make the LB group much better than last season.
Jared Wiley
This source has always been bullish on Wiley, but he went a step further … “Wiley should play for money one day.”
Safeties turned OLB’s
“Not just Overshown that would be best at linebacker, but Owens and even B.J. Foster. If Foster was willing, he would be a great WILL backer.” Likes Foster at safety, to be clear, but loves what he could end up being at WILL backer.

You said it man...
Bill Parcels said you are what your record says you are...Is that right?
Well I guess in some respects you are what your ranking says you are.
....except for 2008!! :brickwall:

Uh, would that be “locked and loaded” for Moore? Because if that is what was meant, yeah he’s been that way for a while.

There is some very wise sharp money in Las Vegas that thinks Texas is a serious contender to come thru this year IF we overcome these bullsheet offseason problems.

Perhaps MII did and he's just trying to stir up ****.

How are any polls going to be objective with all the P5 conferences basically playing w/ themselves? In that scenario, the SEC will end up w/ 3 of the top 4 teams and the B1G getting the other spot in the CFP

What if every SEC team has 2 losses or more?

Why not just take the year off?
I though "gap years" were popular with this age group

That's about the funniest thing I've seen.
I'll give it to these kids these days....
Wait...no I won't...
What folly is in the minds of our youth.

I have a great game show idea.... Let's take 5th graders from the 1900-1940s and put them up against today's college students in a competition of wit, knowledge, education, critical thought, maturity, and emotional intelligence.

Expecting big things from this guy.

When you see a guy looking real good while even while getting beat in downfield coverage...just looking the part....there's a reason. Dude looks like a baller w huge upside.

I think the idea with Yurcich is to simplify the scheme and let our freak athletes be freaks. Owens and Ossai come to mind pretty fast. It's a great recruiting tool for the other freaks too. They will notice if we turnover some of the depth chart to get the freaks on the field and then let them play.

Something interesting from Eric Nahlin/Inside Scoop

LB -- Juwan Mitchell has a firm lock on first team Mike. Behind him, Dele Adeoye and Cort Jaquess are splitting second team reps. You might have seen the picture of Mitchell looking a lot leaner. Word is he’s as fast as he looks.

At Will, DeMarvion Overshown and David Gbenda are splitting reps. Overshown is going to make more plays and probably win the job, but Gbenda is fast and much more comfortable mentally. Gbenda can play this year, “Overshown just looks like the freaks on National Championship winning teams.”

The popular sentiment behind the scenes: this position will surprise this year.

Jack OLB -- I saved this for last because Justin and I are combining on the info. We’ll go into more depth tomorrow but we’ve heard walk-on Jett Bush was looking too good at linebacker to be stuck behind Mitchell and Overshown so they moved him to Jack to back-up Joseph Ossai. He’s running with the twos. People in the program are very high on Bush. He brings a lot to the table and isn’t your typical walk-on. When he accepted a PWO roster spot we couldn’t figure out why he didn’t have 20 offers.

Jett Bush is a LB from the Houston area who was committed to NMSU but gave it up for a PWO at Texas.
At the time, Nahlin/Wells called it a big deal and evidence of Herman's work/desire to upgrade the walk-on program at Texas. His HS film was pretty salty. Kind of surprised Patterson did not make a run at him

Yeah, Jett Bush at TCU or Baylor would have haunted us.
