Driver,

Interestingly, the same man that "made" Mike's career at oSu, made Jimmie's at oSu. Both with the help of a much despised (on this board) coach, who gave perhaps the best eulogy I've ever heard at his funeral.

Why? Who can do a better job? Look at the string of coaches they had before him. oSu should build a statue to Coach Bill for making Pat Jones hire Gundy as QB coach & play caller.

He is rarely wrong in his comments. Stands up for his players. Has a huge recruiting disadvantage. Stood up to T Boone when necessary. (They didn't speak for over two years.)

They can NOT do better.
Agree that he is rarely off base with his comments. Many, including many on here ridiculed him for his "I'm a man!" comment. He was only standing up for his QB, saying in effect come after me if you want to come after somebody. "I'm a man, I can take it, leave the kid alone." I admired him for that and still do.

Have they ever tried?
Is there no hope for something better in Stillwater?
They have an opportunity now that Dr Boren has retired in Cleveland County, and Texas and OU are no longer on the schedule. Their largest alumni chapter is in Houston, but few, if any of them are active or do more than read about the games online.

One of their wealthiest alums was a huge OU benefactor. He passed a couple of years back but would see him at The State Fair every year - he sat in 105 next to the TV camera.

Like Jackie said when he arrived in Brazos County - "it's a sleeping giant. Once you get them organized, watch out"

We owe them a debt of gratitude for getting the worst cheater of all time banned from NCAA athletics - think Clemson, Florida, oSu (Hart Lee Dykes).

Key question is whether they owe money to T Boone's estate. Did he "give" them money with caveats like he did Texas and the medical school?

People that use that quote as a joke make my blood boil. We had the LB situation in the 80s that was found to be a midget Mexican APD officer who hated blacks but destroyed our season. Fred tried to tell people, but the detractors used it against him. Everyone knew better than to attack Barry's players
(although I tried multiple times).

I have great admiration for Mike and think he's a helluva coach. Hard to believe he and Cale came from the same parents.

Aggys leading rusher, Le'Veon Moss, is out for the season due to a knee injury against SC. Tough break for him.

It's never too late or too often to remind people of what Billie Powers did to our programs. Fortunately, I was wrong when I told him it would take us 20 years to recover, but I never knew how outstanding CDC would be.

I mean, maybe they can't do better in terms of a person leading the program, but I think they can find someone who can turn their existing personnel into... you know... a SINGLE conference win. Remember, this is basically the same group of players that went to the CCG last season. There's probably a hungry coordinator somewhere that could turn their football fortunes around, sans Gundy quotes.

I don't. Bobby Reid was 21 going on 22 when the article was written, and the article was true. Zac Robinson was Gundy's chosen boy, and when he struggled way worse than Reid ever did, there was never the "threat" that Gundy would swap him out like Mike constantly did to Bobby. When Reid spiraled into depression, he leaned on his family, and while the article made it seem like that was a criticism of Reid, it was more of a criticism of Gundy's handling of it.
