Random Season News

When will this stupid craziness stop? Black, brown, white or purple, do what the police tell you to do and stay out of bad neighborhoods in cities like Chicago and you will be fine. I don’t remember a single black Texas football player ever being shot because of his color, but I read daily about black brothers being shot by other blacks. I do remember many black Texas football players being worshiped as heroes by white people and being given a ton of positive support. Some even get statues of themselves and s- - t named for them.

I will take a lifetime break from contributing any money to anything U of Texas while “I discuss family financial issues“ (I will support our Horns Fans only). The civil rights movement won me over but now you can label me fed up!

Besides the sack, can also see Sweat blow up the LG
(I think the LT is Moore and the LG Majors)

I see some Husker players and parents are trying to sue B1G. asking to know how each school 's leaders voted and what basis they used to cancel

The B1G and Pac12 should have listened to us.
Damage done to the conferences is apparent...
They should just kick it in gear and go with the rest of us.
Might take a couple games to get their legs under them but how can they be involved in play offs if the don't start until Thanksgiving.
Get it up and going or leave it shut down.

No chance the Pac or Big play football this year. Once you lose your nerve, you're finished.

To play they would have to admit they'd made the wrong decision before, and have enough steel in their spine to stare down comments of "you're going to kill them all", and "how can you put profits before players?". Spines of warm playdo won't withstand that in tweet format.

No big loss. The Pac is irrelevant for the national championship, with what, one appearance in the group of 4? Ohio State is an elite program, but that's it from the Big. Between the SEC, Clemson, and the guaranteed appearance and quick exit of OU, the 4 team roster is almost set already.

Our rooms with multiple starters are getting more guys from the transfer market. After adding a very high quality back earlier in the week, here is a WR/multi-position add from Arizona.
My question is......Where's our transfer linebacker we need?

Interesting - Brendan Schooler's brother Colin is a grad transfer LB who just entered the portal and is now a Red Raider. He was the 2017 Pac-12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year and is the FBS active leader in tackles for loss with 46, recording at least 90 tackles in each of his three seasons with Arizona.

Sure would have been nice to add both brothers and get some LB help.

Texas Tech adds transfer Schooler from Arizona

Good catch, YOS. I was a totally looking at this^^^ yesterday afternoon and thinking I was a bit surprised we didn't bring them both on. I'm sure there were reasons on one side or the other....I hope good ones

Nonetheless, welcome to The 40, Mr. Schooler

Texas lands graduate transfer WR Brenden Schooler
High quality back ???? The guy is a DII kid who was out with an injury all last year..More of a serviceable body than a high quality back. With two major conferences backing out of football you would think TEXAS could get a top flight DI runningback to portal in....

Not just a Dii kid....but one who was the leading rusher and already getting NFL looks

Will be interesting to see what UT allows with regards to players being in jerseys, helmets, other UT gear, or if they do as I suspect and prevent a player from using any of those.

Let's be honest with the Name Image Likeness euphemism. Players aren't going to make money on a cross stitch of their face that their Grandma sewed up. It's all about ads and product endorsements. And without them being in uniform in an add, with just a few exceptions, who's going to recognize them or know their name well enough to be swayed by an ad with them in it?

Now if there's a highlight clip and they're in a Texas jersey whist talking about how wonderful Chico's Used Cars is, that's a different story. But without the uniform, you're talking just a few players that are likely to get deals. So the big decision for UT is do they allow the use of football gear in ads?

I'm thinking you have about 1 or 2 stars every handful of years (Ehlinger would be the only one currently) who stand out and are recognizable and a handful who get some local love...with the rest sitting out the party.

Indeed. Then the question will become does that player give some of his endorsement money to other players, such as the QB giving money to his OL, or WR's. Will colleges have rules against this, or will that be allowed as well?

If they don't kick some of the ad money back, does that lead to resentment by other players that the QB is "gettin' paid" while they get nothing?

Also don't forget the reason why the NCAA didn't allow product endorsements for so long. Despite what sports writers say, it's not because they hate players and want them to suffer. It was to prevent say, Red Motors or whatever that OK used car lot was called from hiring players to wash cars for 50 bucks an hour, the word getting out that "come to OU and they'll hook you up with a sweet gig", and thus having an unfair advantage over schools that didn't have businesses that would hire players to do nothing.

Now though, any supporter can hire as many players as they want to for endorsements, and I guess, no set limit on how much to pay them. So will say school X have have all their players on hire at local business for 2 grand a year, while another school's supporters offer 3 grand to any roster player?

Between this, and the transfer portal, there's not much difference anymore between college and pro ball - both will have competing salary packages, and free agency for players.

A few businesses would be interested in the names/likenesses of the entire team. Video games, for example. The player wouldn't even have to do anything but give EA permission to include their name in the roster for NCAA 2022 and they'd get a check.

Good point, Ajo. I hadn't thought thoroughly along those lines.
I am sure there are alot of things I am not thinking of.
Have been mainly focused on the "big" deals and recognizability factor in my thinking.

DD,

Interesting question. The rule would not allow it, however, the "natural relationship" rule would overrule that unless there is "fine print" in the first rule to prevent that.

Interesting......It has been presumed by media that Spencer Rattler (RS fresh) would be QB starter for ou, but a couple pieces I've read indicate it is wide open between Tanner Mordecai (RS soph) and Rattler and yet undecided.
Hopefully that means they both [ou]suck and one will get mad and transfer....to Pluto....tomorrow.... in the rain....and get lost on the way..
...and the other leaves to go look for him....and get lost, too.
