Blue definitely needed another year. The major loss for me was Brooks this year. He was a true breakaway back that made his holes with no blocking at times. Blue and Wisner require dominant o-line blocking to break free.

I believe it is a wise choice by Jayden. If all the other backs come back healthy plus recruits, that's a pretty full RB room. How much exposure and PT will he get? Then there is the possibility of injury.

He just lost his best OL to the NFL. His speed will get him a solid look from someone. High pick? I doubt it, but a chance to prove himself? Definitely.

He had 3 choices: portal, share time, or go NFL. Why spend a year learning a new system? Why share time or just shine in limited appearances? NFL was the right choice. Not ideal but likely the best option.

My thoughts as well, Sabre. Assuming Baxter and Clark are back at full speed or close to it, plus Wisner and Gibson and plus incoming freshmen, there's not enough reps to go around.
You can't coach speed, and he's got some. The baseball analogy would be a kid that throws 95 but it wild as a March hare. You'll take a chance and try to teach him to throw strikes. If a kid only throws 85, you prolly ain't gonna teach him to throw 95.

To your point he was running 4th behind Baxter, Clark and Wisner.
look for incoming freshman Simon to make a big splash. Thats why he's been a portal candidate .

I think if he gets an invite to the nfl combine he will pass the eyeball test. His rb "skills" do not make him a 3 down back in the NFL but some team will like him as a gadget piece.

In his favor . He has shown the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and the league loves that.

Time will tell. He could be a 4th or 5th round steal or a 5 year practice squad member.

So many are already talking up the "what if" of "What if Arch Manning had been our QB?" Not me. My "what if" is "What if JBrooks had not been injured last year and came back to play again this year?"

Vernon has done everything he's been asked to do by the coaches. He graduated in May, got married this summer. He is a great example of what college athletics should be, and his mother led him to be. Yolanda is a great lady, whom I wish would speak to mothers of athletes about how to get it done.

OTF reporting Texas coaches will hit the road on Thursday to start off-season recruiting.

The reason they're waiting a few days is to address any players debating on entering the NFL Draft or portal by the Wednesday deadline.
