I think it’s amazing I can spend $0.60 or so and have a check, letter, etc. across the nation in 2-4 days. From my door to another door. We are spoiled.

I only check my mailbox about every 4-5 days. My last trip included about 25 items of which I kept ONE piece and burned the rest of the junk mail.

I haven't mailed anything in probably 7-8 years.

Who cares if the defendant had traveled to show support for DJT. We have a right in this country to show support for the candidates of our choice and, at that precise moment in time, DJT was STILL the President.

The judge is a political hack seeking to chill public participation that the judge did not like but that is permissible under law...

Obviously, daring to deign to support DJT is more serious than actually taking over (by force) and destroying federal buildings in Portland and police precincts in Minneapolis is far more serious. Thought crimes MUST be punished while actual violence...screw it, burn on.

Of course, I have an APO address, so unless I want to get ***-raped for international shipping, USPS is my only choice. Accordingly, I've had very few encounters with FedEx or UPS in recent years.

However, I agree with you that USPS is bureaucratic and that its employees are overpayed for their skill sets. I think that's pretty clear, but is it that expensive? I don't see their competitors beating them on price very much. In fact, UPS and FedEx often sub out the final delivery of their parcels to the USPS.
 
I frankly wonder why Manchin doesn't change parties. He represents a state which is conservative, and he would have no difficulty being reelected as a Republican. And his political views are much closer to the GOP than to the left wing of the Democratic party.

At this moment in time, he is able to be more of a power broker for his State than if he jumped ship. He also serves to block someone from running to fill the spot and potentially get in on straight-ticket balloting. I'd look for a potential party change to occur after the mid-term election cycle closes and then he will re-evaluate what he wants to do in the next cycle (current term expires 2025) when he is in his late 70's.

Much closer to the GOP? Not sure about that but he's in the proverbial center for the moment. If the left keeps beating the crap out of him the way they are then he may need to leave. Not sure it would get any easier in the GOP though because he wasn't supportive of most of Trump's agenda either. Maybe Independent?

Keep in mind, there is immense power being in Manchin and Sinema's position right now. They get to call most of the shots because their votes are pivotal in a 50/50 split.

There is immense power if he wields it. I'm not getting the sense that he is holding out just to squeeze power out of the process. I get the sense that he really believes that many of these Dem priorities are wrong. I'm not one to give pols much credit for being principled and I generally think there is always a personal gain angle, but in this situation, it really does feel like Manchin and Sinema are holding out based on earnestly held beliefs. they are both almost certain to get primary challengers now and a whole lot of MSM and BMD action against them. that doesn't seem like the right move if you are in it for the power.
 
a friend just posted a letter from DT's office attacking Phelan. Will the asshat Trump please just shut up. I'm so fed up with this douche I'm getting to the point that I may not vote if he is the GOP candidate. Can't vote for a dem but I'm not voting for the narcissistic little jackass again.

Trump needs to be quiet, but Phelan is actively holding back good policy in order to please Beto and other Progressives. He is a useful idiot for all the Ds schemes. It's like he is really a D in R clothing.
 
Love him or hate him, John Stewart has often been insightful on politics. He's convinced Trump as a "very good chance in 2024".

It's sad that it ever was a possibility. It's sadder still that we saw what 4 years were like and 49.8% are like "yeah, that was cool. More of that".

Baby boomers have had their moment on the stage. It's time to give up the stage. Just be happy that they'll receive a SSN check and MediCare that their children and grandchildren won't and let others start governing.

Do you really mean like those we have in power now? Really? I actually would like to see someone of integrity start governing. I just feel as though there are none, or perhaps a minuscule few that would try but cannot over come the overall corruption and graft.

We'd all appreciate someone with more integrity. My major beef is that we typically resist older people in the workforce due to declining skillsets. Yet, the most powerful politicians are all well beyond 70. I do also worry that too many Senior citizens want people like them. It's time to bring more youth (under 70...maybe under 60) back to the White House and leadership roles in Congress.

The age factor is kinda interesting and a bit revealing. Democrats tend to go with younger presidential nominees (with one obvious exception), but they tend to have older congressional leadership teams, because they tend to stay on Capitol Hill longer, which makes it harder for younger members to get into leadership. To mitigate this, they've created more leadership positions (assistant Speaker of the House, lots of vice and co-chairs, deputy whips, etc.).

The GOP tends to go with big names that have been around for awhile for their nominees. Even though Trump was new to politics in '16, he was a big name. Their congressional leaders tend to get frustrated after awhile and quit and almost never stick around after losing control of Congress. For perspective, Pelosi has been the top Democrat in the House for 18 years. (How many people remember Richard Gephardt?) At that time, the top Republican was Dennis Hastert, and three different guys have held the slot since then (Boehner, Ryan, and McCarthy).
