Pictures from Inside Reliant

And one more thing, both Purdue and Minnesota play on a raised floor every game, and I want to say at least 2 other schools do

I think Huck's point is well taken. ***** if you must... but don't let that be the reason for not showing up.

Look guys, All but one of Stanford's losses this year were road games. That is a huge advantage we will need to exploit tonight.

BE THERE!

Florida shot 19-40 from three in the Georgia Dome Final Four last year.

If you can shoot it, you adjust. Might be a struggle early and then you have to find the range somehow.

Man, this reminds me of my seats for both Rose Bowls. I had goal line seats about 15 rows up but on the opposite end of where Texas was driving in the 4th quarters. So not only could I barely tell whether Dusty Mangum's game-winning field goal was good, but the next year I couldn't see Vince Young cross the goal line on 4th and 5! What kind of crap is that! I tell ya, I've completely sworn off going to BCS bowls because if I can't get a great seat it isn't even worth the cost. I don't care that I was surrounded by 50,000 screaming Texas fans having the time of their lives.

And don't get me started about the Final Four in NOLA. Once the Texas game started, we were able to find seats next to the UT student section, and even though they were on the side of the Superdome the court was on (the court was absolutely not in the middle of the field, as someone else said), we were in the upper deck! It didn't matter that I was surrounded by thousands of Texas fans anxiously awaiting every possession with so much riding on the game. And since it was a basketball game and not football, I could still see all the action easily, even from a vantage point higher than any vantage point at Reliant, but damnit who the hell would really want to do that again?

Get used to this, folks. 30,000 fans in a non-college sports town to watch a Sweet 16 game? In a few years the NCAA will have all their Regionals in stadiums, just like the Final Four requirement. There's too much $$ out there not to do that.

If you can't afford to go to the games this weekend, that's understandable for you not to go. But all this bitching about the seating is just laughable. The atmosphere tonight is going to be great. Will it be as good as if the games were in Toyota Center? No, but the atmosphere will still far surpass UT's home games vs. Directional School. Tickets for those games on the lower level are $35. The cost per game tonight, no matter where you sit, is $39. And yet it isn't worth the cost to go?

if you're an inhabitant of Houston and have an extra $100 to spend, get your *** to the game, and quit the

I bet the final game will sell 5-8K more tickets if Texas wins tonight. I remember similar circumstances when Texas won in San Antonio back in 2003.

Sounds like Texas fans are coming through and buying tickets anyway. WAY TO GO!!

I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and set-up tonight. No matter what, I am going to be there to see up take down Stanford!!

All this bagging on houston, get over it.

In order to secure this bid, and for any future bid to be secured for a regional or final four, you have to first prove to the committee you are capable of producing this set up. after that, they will consider you.

the NCAA is screwing everything up, and I doubt this lasts too much longer especially after the hellacious reviews post game form fans, i really hope so anyway

For the record, I said the setup is stupid. Which it is.

Has nothing to do with Houston or Reliant Park. I'm well aware that the NCAA dictated the setup.

The only mistakes I see is the tickets. How in the world they decided to make all seats $159 is beyond me. All I can figure is that they wanted the UD to be that price but didn't think they could get $250 or so for floor seats, so they decided to make them all the same price.

The floor could not be 1' above the ground because they slope is to severe.

The ****** thing is the fact that even with the extended seating, nobody sits within what looks to be a good 10-15 yards of the court.

not sure why they didn't make Reliant just like they do at the alamodome w/ the curtain, etc..The other two regionals were in similar building like the Toyota Center in Phoenix and Charlotte, right, so why not the toyota center? in summary, at least make it more fan friendly like the ****** set up in the alamodome and you can still get 40k fans in there. Reliant was probably the only way Houston was going to get the regional but they could have done a better job; anyway, those Horn fans in Houston better be tailgating by now b/c there's no liquor in there!

The crown of an average football field is between 12 and 18 inches and 140 feet across. The court is 66 feet (adding in the 8 foot sides) so, it could have been made as about a foot and a half raised.

The crown in relaint stadium is 6"

Somebody check my numbers.

I did a quick Google on football field design. Looks like the optimum grade for drainage is 1% to 1.75%.

Let's be conservative and use 2% for a steeper slope.

A basketball court is 50 feet wide, and let's add 10 feet to each side for the Reliant court layout, or a total width of 70 feet for the wood layed down.

If the court is centered on the field, then a 2% slope from the center of the field to the edge of the wood layed down (35 feet either way), is a fall of about 8-1/2 inches.

By my cyphering, only 8-1/2 inches of the 27 inches suggested as the court height is due to the field's slope.

Said another way, if the field were flat, with no slope, this suggests that the supporting structure of the temporary court would be 18-1/2".

Bueller?

Anyone?

I live in FW and my wife is due any day now. i'd give one of my nuts (convenient since i might be done with kids) to see this game you have people bitching and complaining about the city of Houston? this game could be anywhere but downtown Bagdhad and I'd go if my wife wasn't ready to pop.

Wow I just noticed something in the first couple of photos of this post. They look like those photographs where most of the photo is in black and white with just a few highlighted colored items.

Go back and look.
Pretty cool actually.
