HOLEE **** that sucks.

I've been thinking we're at a distinct disadvantage vs. Stanford b/c we'll be relying much more on long range jumpers than they will. I do not see this ending well for the good guys.

Whoever's decision this was (NCAA/City of Houston/both)...it sucks ***.

The late, great Abe Lemons comes to mind.

When asked whether something should be done to the game to minimize the advantage of bigger and bigger players near the basket, Lemons responded (something like this, IIRC):

"I think we should just cut a hole in the floor right in front of the basket. Then we could recruit midgets. 'Hey, little guy, want a scholarship?' "

Hey!, maybe that extra elevation will make the DosLopez light in the head and take THEM out of their game.

seems like some of you are already creating excuses if UT loses this weekend. calm down Chicken Little.

You do realize that the players are also sitting below the floor and have to walk up steps to check into the game. The article in this morning's AAS says Texas brought in extra chairs so they could carry them up onto the court during time outs. The bench chairs are all hooked together. The coaches have stools so they can see the floor better.

This is the worst thing I have ever seen and whomever thought of it should be shot !

Anyone that tries to defend that set-up is fooling themselves in my opinion.

$$$$$$$$>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Fans

I'm staying at home. That is too much money to be sitting all the way on top.

Lets see the advantages of watching it at home:
1.Will not have to battle through 2 plus hours of traffic to get in and out of the stadium. Also, Parking $.
2. Use the money from the tickets and buy beer, food, etc for all the friends coming over
3. No beer sales in Reliant unless you are in a suite
4. Watch it on HD on a 60" tv with surround sound with play by play commentary.
5.. Will actually be able to see the action as opposed to being at Reliant Stadium all the way on the top. If you rely on the video board to see the game, it's better off staying at home.

Very difficult choice, I know.

Either way, LETS GO HORNS!!!!

For people who didn't read the earlier link, the point of this set-up is to prepare for future Final Fours, starting next year. And in those cases, the black curtain will be gone to allow for crowds over 60K (and creating an even more distant background for shooters). Both of tonight's venues - Houston and Detroit - are using the new centered court.

This is a big advantage for Stanford and Kansas since they don't live off the 3 as much as others in their regions. Another plus for Stanford is the noise of the UT fans will be somewhat dissipated into the large space.

watched a newscast last night here in houston where the sports guy went on and on about how great the setup was and how the tourney would look like this for the next 20 years. i'll chalk it up to hometown pride, or smog colored glasses if you will, but yuck. this setup really gives potential for 30% shooting from both teams and a lot of fouls as teams have to go inside to score.

I still don't understand the rationale for elevating the floor. There has to be a reason that they raised the floor up. I can't imagine how 2 1/2 feet would benefit the fan viewing. Can anyone enlighten me?

I think they should go with the pro wrestling theme and allow any players who fall off the court to grab folding chairs and hit each other with them.

It's really a shame Vandy didn't last long enough to make it to the regionals -- they'd be right at home with this setup.

I'd be interested to see if any studies have been done on 3-point shooting in domes -- I know from watching Georgetown that they've recently struggled in such stadiums (Carrier Dome in Syracuse, Georgia Dome in last year's final four, etc.)

If the games were being played at Toyota Center, people would be bitching that there aren't enough seats and the prices are too high because of a lack of supply.

Let's just see how it plays out. If you have good seats like me you'll be happy regardless. If you don't want to pay for bad seats, you don't have to. If you just want to be there and don't care how far the seats are from the court, then you'll go.

Seems like it would have made some sense though to lower the costs of the 500 and 600 sections. If they have a bunch of empty seats I bet they wish they had.

There is no reason to raise the court. If I were a coach of one of the teams in this region, I would be seriously worried about losing a player to injury.

Local news is reporting only 3,000 tickets remain (down from 11,000 Wednesday), so there idea to sell the sessions individually seems to have worked.

Madscientist, You have to understand that if you say anything critical about the city of Houston - whether it's media, their sports teams, their fans support or lack therof, their general lifestyle - there are certain people on this board who will automatically run to its defense.

Hook'em!!!
